3* #961/962 Oakland Athletics & Houston Astros OVER 9.5 (-103) — w/ Waldichuk & Bielak —
My original thought here was to look at Houston’s team total … but the more you look at this Oakland team, their offense is actually better thank you might anticipate, their pitching staff is what has ruined their record.
Waldichuk is on the mound for Oakland, and 5 of his L7 starts have gone over the total, as he has allowed 3+ ERs in 7 of his L8 starts. He has also gone over the total in 3 of his 4 road starts, behind a 9.16 ERA away from home! While Bielak takes the hill for the Astros, making just his 3rd start of the year. He has allowed just 3 ERs, and while his ERA isn’t bad, his FIP tells a little bit of a different story. Bielak has allowed 18 hits in just 2 starts and has posted a 2.068 WHIP! He is due for a bad outing.
Oakland is 18-8 OU vs. teams > .500 this season, allowing nearly 8 runs/game, and are 23-10 OU off a loss this season! They are also 15-4 OU as a road dog of (+100) or more, but a perfect 13-0 OU as an AD of (+175) - (+250). It shows you that they do have some offensive ability as they are averaging 5 runs/game in those games, the A’s just happen to be allowing 9.8 runs to the opposition in those games, but good for nearly 15 combined runs/game. Oakland is also 15-5 OU on the road this season.
Meanwhile, Houston has gone over the total in 3 consecutive games, with 11 combined runs on average. They have gone over in 13 of their 21 home games, but are 9-4-1 OU @ H when the total is 8 or higher! They have also gone over the total in 7 of the 11 games against LHP.
