The Rays were in a similar spot earlier this week where the road team was in a MUCH better situational spot than the home team (in the Rays' case, the Mets). Tampa won with ease at Citi Field after the Mets were forced to travel home from Washington, while Tampa had a day off and was already in New York because they just played the Yankees. We've got the same situation here. Minnesota had off on Thursday, but the Twins are already in Los Angeles because they were playing the Dodgers earlier this week. The Twins were enjoying an off day at the beach or Disneyland on Thursday while the Angels were wrapping a four-game series in Baltimore. So the road team had a day off and didn't have to travel, while the home team didn't get a day off and is traveling across three time zones from Baltimore to Los Angeles. Trout and Ohtani both played all four games of that series with the Orioles, so we wouldn't be shocked if one of them got a day off here. Minnesota's starting pitcher Joe Ryan is 6-1 with a 2.16 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP this season. He's in the top-20th percentile among pitchers in expected batting average, expected ERA, strikeout rate, walk rate and chase rate. Ryan hasn't allowed a home run since April 19. Pitching away from home hasn't been an issue because he has a 2.03 ERA in five road starts this year. This is an affordable price to back Ryan and the Twins.
