Future conference rivals will share the court in Sacramento tonight, and this one figures to be a hard-fought, defensive battle. Both teams feature experienced point guards that will control the pace of the game. UCLA's Tyger Campbell doesn't run into perimeter guards like Chace Audige and Boo Buie in the Pac-12 very often. Both offenses are in the top-25 in turnover rate, so we're unlikely to see turnovers resulting in fast-break points. UCLA is No. 235 in the country in adjusted tempo, and Northwestern is No. 309. UCLA was No. 1 in KenPom's defensive efficiency metric, and the Wildcats were also in the top-20. The Bruins are No. 343 in the country in three-point volume, so we're unlikely to see a lot of three-point shots with long rebounds and fast-break opportunities. Both teams will be perfectly content with walking the ball up the court and running offensive sets. The first team to 63 probably wins this one.
