FINNs SOUTH 2ND RD TOP of the TICKET I – Tennessee Volunteers +4.0 (-115) | spread position is good with the Tennessee Vols +3 or better
3% game rating
The Vols defend the three-line at a level that the Blue Devils young have not seen this 2022-23 season. And while Duke has shown they do not have to win from beyond the arc the Vols are Duke's equal at protecting the rim.
This is the best defensive team that Duke will have faced this season and it will wear on the youth of the Blue Devils.
The run that Duke put together at the end of the regular season was in many ways a mirage. That mirage was that the ACC was one of the Top 6 conferences in Division I play.
Tennessee's offense has been equal to the task on game night for most of the final month of the SEC campaign. If you need evidence of what this roster can execute on the offensive end of the floor that are a dozen examples in wins this season. One of those being what they were able to complete in 40 minutes against the reigning Big Dance champion Kansas Jayhawks.
The Devils have been more than capable of contesting three-line jumpers this season. But if there is a team in college basketball that plays downhill after hitting a big three-point shot that team is the Vols. Tennessee doesn't gameplan to beat teams from beyond the arc, they create easy looks at the rim with their smothering defense.
Duke is not a uber-efficient shooting group. And they will scuffle against the halfcourt defensive scheme of the Vols. Tennessee is nearly unbeatable, 21-2, when holding the opposition to 40 percent or less in effective field goal percentage on game day.
Duke doesn't force enough turnovers to begin possessions in transition and they will not break down the Vols with their average halfcourt offensive sets.
Tennessee Volunteers +4.0 (-115)
