The Ottawa Senators are playing their first game back off a western Canadian road trip that did not go as planned, dropped games to the Canucks, Flames, Blackhawks and Oilers along the way. With a disappointing road trip and playoff hopes slipping away, I expect a full push from the Sens and their offence. The Senators have a dangerous top six, containing plenty of goal scorers and guys that shoot the puck in high numbers each game they play in. Despite dropping their last road game to the Oilers, I saw plenty of goal-scoring chances that were stopped by a hot goaltender – The pace the Senators played at during their last two road games showed they weren't going to back down, and they continued to push despite being down a few goals.
The Avalanche are playing the second last game of their east coast road trip and the second half of a back-to-back after a low scoring 2-1 shootout win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Colorado might be coming off a 2-1 game, but they did go 1 for 5 on the power play, something very rare for them and something that should improve tonight against the Senators. The Super Stars for the Avalanche are playing extremely well right now, led by Rantanen & Mackinnon; Rantanen scored his 34th goal of the season yesterday and seems to be holding more confidence than he ever has.
One great thing about this match-up is that both clubs contain defensemen that jump into the rush and join the offence, something I most certainly look at when betting an over, and these teams provide that with plenty of young d-men that are willing to join the play, act as a fourth forward and create dangerous chances.
When these teams meet tonight, expect an action-packed game.
