After years of toiling in the WAC, Chicago State has gone the independent route this season. When Coastal Carolina head coach Cliff Ellis scheduled this game, it probably looked like a nice way to break up the Sun Belt grind. But now that the date is actually here, he probably wishes he had this one back. The Chanticleers are coming off back-to-back overtime wins against App State and South Alabama, and Coastal has a well-rested James Madison squad on deck. Coastal Carolina normally plays at a brisk tempo, but after back-to-back overtime games, Coach Ellis will be fine with playing at Chicago State's slower speed. The Cougars play at the No. 308 tempo in the country. Chicago State's last eight games against D-1 opponents have averaged 131 points per game. Even with two bad defensive teams, asking the Cougars to contribute to a total of 143 here against Coastal seems like a pretty tall task. We're going to opt for the first half under 67.5. Chicago State is playing its tenth-straight road game against a D-1 opponent. Coastal may need a couple minutes to find its legs. The Chants are bad at defending the three-point line, but Chicago State is very poor at making them. So Coastal's biggest weakness on defense is unlikely to be exploited.
