There have been questions swirling around Juan Dixon and the Coppin State basketball team all season. We'll let you Google those stories. But the most notable on-the-court effect that we've seen this year has been reflected in the Eagles' effort on defense...or complete lack thereof. Coppin State is No. 338 in KenPom's adjusted defensive efficiency, No. 308 in effective field goal percentage, No. 358 in rebounding rate and No. 348 in two-point shooting allowed. In his sixth season in Baltimore, Coach Dixon has never been able to get things right on the defensive end, and that's a major reason why his record up to this point is 48-123. Coppin State is playing at the sixth-fastest pace in the country, and it's a gameplan that leads to high-scoring games, but certainly not wins. Former Binghamton and Penn State transfer Sam Sessoms (21.6 ppg) can light up the scoreboard, and Howard will gladly accept the invite to run with the Eagles. Howard has cracked the 80-point barrier in four of the past five games, with five different leading scorers in the past six games, which speaks to the balance in the Bison lineup. Maryland transfer guard Marcus Dockery has erupted for scoring nights of 19 and 24 points, respectively, within the past couple of weeks. Howard is top-2 in the MEAC in almost every offensive category. Last year's regular season meetings landed on 164 and 168 points. We see no reason why this one can't land in that neighborhood as well.
