It's taken a while, but reality is starting to set in that this year's version of Vermont just isn't very good, but some of that can be pinned on injury issues. The Catamounts finished inside KenPom's top-80 in five of the last six years. They enter Sunday's contest with NJIT at No. 159 and have already suffered conference losses to New Hampshire and UMass Lowell. NJIT took its lumps during the non-conference slate, but the Highlanders have been feisty in conference play. Nearly every offensive metric has gotten better for NJIT as the season has gone on, particularly three-point shooting where the Highlanders are shooting 38-percent in conference play. Their pace has increased. Their efficiency has increased. Unfortunately, the same can't be said on the defensive side where things have been on the slide. Compared to season-long numbers, conference opponents are shooting better from both two-point and three-point range. These teams met three times last year and the totals landed at 140, 157 and 157. Vermont's roster has changed, but the coaches and the schematic fundamentals in this matchup haven't. The Catamounts have enjoyed offensive success against the Highlanders in the past, and this is a very modest total to clear.
