Utah Tech is on a five-game losing streak...and we're still jumping at the opportunity to back them tonight. That tells you just how bad things have gotten in Las Cruces. New Mexico State has gone from he WAC's premier program to 0-7 and it's showing in the Aggies' effort level, particularly on defense. New Mexico State allowed 111 points to Southern Utah on Thursday, and now makes the trek to St. George. The Aggies' defense is last in the WAC in efficiency and effective field goal percentage, and second-to-last in three-point shooting allowed. Utah Tech has plenty of flaws, but one thing they do well is shoot the three-pointer. A large part of the Trailblazers's offense is built around the three-point shot, and the Aggies haven't been able to slow any one down from beyond the arc. Southern Utah connected on 20-of-35 three-point attempts on Thursday night. Greg Heiar called his team out after that loss and said that they're practicing harder than they're playing in the game. This season has gone off the rails with plenty of off-the-court distractions. New Mexico State is used to winning the WAC and playing in the NCAA Tournament, not losing by 40 to Southern Utah. Heiar might be a one-and-done coach in Las Cruces, if he even makes it to the end of the season.
