Recent Play Details

UNC Asheville (7PM ET ESPN Plus) – We go 2-0 on Tuesday with Kansas State and Boise State both getting it done and I’m finally starting to get hot on the hardwood.  We kicked off the week with a 5% winner on the Cowboys, it’s a 6-1 run overall and I’m going to step out with my first 5% CBB move of 2023 with action in the Big South when the Charleston Southern Buccaneers take on the UNC Asheville Bulldogs at Buccaneer Field House in North Charleston, South Carolina. 

Last Wednesday was the low point of the CBB season for me and the “nail in the coffin” if you will was my bet on High Point (fade of Charleston Southern) were High Point was inexplicably blown out 106-69.  That entire day caused me to make some changes to my methodology for betting CBB and those changes have paid off big time as I’ve been winning in CBB ever since.  What hasn’t changed is my opinion of this Charleston Southern team, I had the Bucs as one of the worst teams in the Big South coming into the season and felt like this was probably a team that would win 3-4 Big South games all season. Charleston Southern is somehow 3-3 in Big South play and the Bucs even played Radford tough over the weekend, covering the number in a losing effort.  I think that loss is the beginning of the end for “Chuck South”, the Bucs were blown out by Gardner-Webb and lost on this floor to Longwood which are two of the upper echelon teams in this league.  The other top tier team in the Big South is UNC Asheville, the Bulldogs have been a staple at the top of the Big South for years and look poised for another run at a conference title as they enter play 5-1 in the Big South tied with Longwood for first place.  I had the Charleston Southern fade circled since the High Point debacle, I didn’t want to lay a touchdown with Radford (thankfully) but here the price is right and Asheville is good enough where I’m happy to press our strong run with a MAX BET.

I also think this is a great matchup for Asheville who should be able to run Charleston Southern off the floor in transition.  Charleston Southern isn’t a good defensive team and the Asheville guards should be able to get up and down here.  Asheville also features Drew Pember, he’s one of the top scorers in the Big South at 19.1 points per game and is a force in the paint grabbing 9.7 boards per game. Asheville has turnover issues but the Bulldogs operate at a higher level than Chuck South does and if they can take care of the ball I think they win without issue here.

In the end this is a total mismatch, Asheville is a team that will be in the mix to win this conference while Charleston Southern is a team fortunate to not be at the bottom of this league right now.  Chuck South has been better than advertised so far but the Bucs aren’t on the same level as the top teams in the Big South and I fully expect Asheville to show their class and leave North Charleston with another conference win.  Play on UNC Asheville -115 for 5% (or 5 units)

I see the line move.  Honestly I'd still play this for 5% at anything up to -150.  I fully expect Asheville to win here.  Extended analysis will be added shortly….
