List Pitchers McClanahan and Ohtani
HP Umpire: Marvin Hudson is pitcher-friendly and has consistently issued favor to left-handed pitchers. In his big league career Hudon's K rate is 20 percent higher with southpaw starters.
Weather: Forecast calls for 70 degrees at first pitch with no precip and a 5-10 mph wind blowing out to centerfield.
Not only is McClanahan improving his command with each start his Velo is up nearly two mph since last season, and his peripherals command our attention.
McClanahan took the loss against the Twins two starts back, his second of the season having lost to the A's in mid-April. His stuff was nasty in both losses. The Rays' lefty struck out 11 versus the Twins and walked justtwo and against the A's he punched out eight in just 4.2 innings.
The sophomore pitcher for the Rays has a 47:9 K:BB ratio and as long as he is healthy he will lead the AL in strikeouts with the best ratio against walks when September rolls around.
I have never been a proponent of supporting Ohtani when he has been on the mound and in the first four slots in the batting order. Any concerns about Shohei Ohtani’s health were put to rest with his incredible performance against the Red Sox on Thursday at Fenway Park.Ohtani left Sunday’s game with right groin tightness and was held out of the Angels lineup on Monday, but proved he was just fine by turning in one of the best outings of his career in Boston.
However, my Intel has reported on more than one occasion since Ohtani's start versus the Red Sox that he has complained about soreness in his pitching forearm.
Toss in the fact that playing against a team with a pitching staff that comes off a no-hitter is the only way to approach the team that threw the no-no. You either fade that team or you stay away from the game.
Getting McClanahan as the underdog in this matchup is over-the-top value.
