What a perfect spot to not only bet on the Flames here, but also to bet against the Dallas Stars. Right now, the series is 2-1 Dallas and frankly, if the Flames are going to win this series, they have to win game 4 – period. They are a much better team than Dallas at every single position and have been totally snake bitten this series. In game 1, they outshot Dallas 26-16 and won 1-0. In game 2 they outshot Dallas 29-22 and lost 2-0 and in Game 3 they outshot Dallas 41-31 and lost 4-2 with an empty-net goal. If a team continues to outshoot another team by a substantial margin game in and game out, that team is set for a breakout game. This is that game and I expect Calgary to come out flying and stay flying all game. I would not be surprised if this is a 4-1 game for Calgary as they try get back into this series. These teams faced each other 4 times in the regular season and Calgary won 3 of them, with Dallas’ only win coming in overtime. It’s playoff hockey, which means a hot goalie can win games and that is what we have seen this series. This just not happen every game and although Oettinger is playing incredible and might continue to win games for Dallas, he will have an off game in game 5.
When you look at these 2 teams, Calgary is 3rd in goals against while Dallas is only in the middle of the pack. Offensively, the Flames are 6th in scoring, while Dallas is in the bottom half of the league. Their Power plays are almost exactly the same, with the Flames only slightly better and on the Penalty Kill, the Flames are 6th in the league, while Dallas again finds themselves in the bottom half of the league. There is literally no category that Dallas is better than Calgary in and I think we see that in Game 4.
The bottom line is Calgary is a much better team, with a better goalie, better stars, more balance up and down the line-up, a better defensive and PP and PK unit, and a better coach. They find themselves down 2-1 in the series, yet they have outplayed and out-chanced Dallas in every game and almost every period. This is a must-win game for them and I think they get it done. Take Calgary to win in Regulation with an expected score of 4-1.
