We've got two of the best bullpens in baseball, and both of them are largely rested (especially Milwaukee's). So we're going to stay away from the full game and attack these two starting pitchers.
Charlie Morton is struggling, and there's very little from his recent performances to suggest that he's improving. He's walked 3+ batters in each of his last four starts. He's got a 12.3% walk rate this season after being at 7.2%, 5.9% and 7.7% the last three seasons. His career strikeout rate is 26.4% but that's down to 15.8% this season. His expected ERA in each of the last five seasons has been comfortably under 4.00. This year it's 5.15.
“There were still signs last year that I could still be a dominant pitcher because I would still get swings and misses,” Morton said. “Now it seems like more of those at-bats have turned into long at-bats that result in walks or hits and my pitch counts are just driven up.”
...That doesn't sound like a guy that's glowing with confidence right now. He's 4-8 against Milwaukee in 16 career starts, so this isn't a team that he's enjoyed success against through out his career.
On the flip side, Ronald Acuna has reached base in every game since his return, and he's hit a home run each of the last two nights. If his bat stays hot today, he'll create havoc for Milwaukee starter Aaron Ashby. Play the first five innings over 4 runs, which is widely available at -120.
