I'm loving this line in a preliminary fight between Ed Herman and Gerald Meerschaert...

Gerald Meerschaert has alternated wins and losses, but faced some stiff competition along the way. After submitting a tough Trevin Giles he lost a close split decision to Eryk Anders. Then he squared up against top prospect Deron Winn whom has power and trains with world class fighters. In this bout Meerschaert used his reach advantage working strong combinations from the outside. Winn pressed with power shots but Gerald kept his distance and for a grappler showed a lot of patience. Heading into round 3 Meerschaert was up on the scorecards in my opinion, in the final round Gerald landed a hook that dropped Winn, from there Gerald did what he does best, seek control of ground positioning. Winn gave up his back and Gerald sunk in a rear-naked choke. Most recently he faced rising contender Ian Heinisch whom has great defensive wrestling, good striking and smart inside the clinch. In round 1 Ian was able to fend off the grappling attacks of Gerald. From there Ian landed a powerful hook dropping Meerschaert, Ian swarmed him and finished the fight with ground and pound.

On the other side is Ed Herman. After going 1-3 in his last 4 fights, he faced off against the human punching bag Gian Villante. This fight was as sloppy as a UFC fight can get. Both guys threw power shots wildly without any footwork or defensive ability. Gian is a slow moving target whom allows opponents to land at will. By round 2 both fighters seemed gassed with hands down as they continued to throw strikes without any set up's or mixing up combinations. Basic striking all fight long as Ed took a decision loss. After that Ed beat Patrick Cummins who's 2-5 in his last 7 UFC fights. Early in that fight Cummins took Herman down easy, but Ed bounced back upright. Once again the wild hooks from Herman are seen, which appears to be his only form of offense at this point in his career. He took the victory after landing a knee earning the TKO. Most recently he faced Khadis Ibragimov, this was another slow paced fight with Herman sticking to what he does each fight.... wild hooks and gassing out middle of fight. He was able to outwork Khadis in an ugly showing of low level skills. Ed won which would give Khadis an 0-3 record in the UFC, not to impressive list of recent opponents.

Overall, there's nothing to like about Ed Herman in this spot. At 39 years old facing low level UFC opponents and not very active, only fighting 5 times in the last 4 years. Not good. The style at which he fights makes him very hitable and the basic striking and low cardio level should allow Meerschaert to drag Ed into deep water. With much better cardio, better grappling, elevating striking and always seeking a submission finish... it's a great spot to bet Gerlad here. He can get the finish bringing it to the ground or working grappling positions over 3 rounds to earn a win on the storecards.
