LIST STARTING PITCHERS Heaney and Montas

The Angels have said and done most all of the right things this offseason. They have signed up a couple of additions to improve the roster and they hope they can keep their Japanese import healthy for a full season, for the next 90 days give or take. But there always seems to be drama surrounding this Halo's squad.  Mike Trout's wife is expecting a baby soon and he will leave the Angels bubble if you will for that period and the managerial change this season requires some adjustment time. There are few managers in baseball with as complex a system as Uncle Joe's.

There is typically a handful of pitchers each and every season that are simply not trustworthy. Heaney is one of those pitchers for me. Going back to last year's final outing for the left you find Heaney striking out 8 in 5 IP versus the Yankees.
As attractive as that above line is those eight punch-out’s also came with 6 ER's on 5 hits (2 HR's) and 3 BB's in the contest. The Angels lefty is as up and down as any pitcher in the game. You found Heaney's stock rising last year during a stretch in which he struck out 24 and allowed just 1 ER in a two-start Rangers workload.
That was sandwiched by outings in which he allowed four or more runs in four starts and a season ERA of 5-plus. The Rangers were and are not a good sample to use when arguing your point that "this pitcher" is hot or not... in form or not in form.
One of the young arms to watch this season is in the opposing dugout tonight, Frankie Montas. The Billy Beane right-hander receives his first Opening Day nod. And he receives the honor after a terrific 2019 season going  9-2 with a 2.63 ERA over 16 starts with 103 strikeouts in 96 innings. His season was interrupted due to an 80-game suspension after testing positive for a banned substance.
The A's not only win their season debut in front of cardboard cutouts on home grass they do so in championship fashion.
