Rua vs Nogueira -- Fight Night on Fight Island

This Mauricio Rua vs. Antônio Rogério Nogueira is scheduled as the co-main event for Saturday's will be the co-main for Saturday's UFC Fight Night 174 at and on Fight Island.

Most Vegas and Offshore shops have Rua as a -180 to -195 favorite. If you were to read past performances, and just Lil Nogs primetime fight night victories one might be surprised by the Moneyline on this Fight Night bout in the Fight Island octagon. Nog had defeated some of the legends of the sport. He has wins over the likes of Tito Ortiz, Rashad Evans, Alistair Overeem, Kazushi Sakuraba, and former Olympic wrestler and Strikeforce Light Heavyweight champion Dan Henderson.

That was then and now is not what "The Nog" once was. Not to confuse Lil with bigger brother the light heavyweight Rogerio has dropped four of his last six fights. While Nog still appears to have the physical attributes to be a force in the ring with top contenders the bare naked truth is that his ability to defend his chin has all but disappeared as he enters his Golden Years. Nogueira just turned 44 years of age in June and while Rua is no spring chicken the difference in these two MMA warriors is night and day.

The time for Lil Nog to hang up the gloves has come and gone. And like an aging NFL veteran who has taken seemingly tens-of-thousands of shots to the Noggin (pun intended) this Fight Island event isn't as even as the odds might suggest and simply favors the younger and stronger Mauricio Rua.

Age began collecting from Lil Nog sometime ago. And while Rua is approaching his visit too from Father Time, and sooner than later, this bout will result in an easy win for the 38-year-old Brazilian.

Rua has been at the top of his fight-game recently winning 4 of his last 5 in impressive fashion. If you have a chance to watch Nog's last bout take the time to review it. You will likely find Nog still attempting to pick himself up off the canvas from his 1st round TKO by Ryan Spann. The aforementioned was his last fight and it took place on the 11th of May, 2019, and was in Lil Nog's backyard, Rio de Janeiro.

The last time these two squared off was in August of 2015, nearly a half-decade ago, and in that fight, Rua won by unanimous decision, a UFC 190 bout, that too was in Rio.
