John H Nemecheck ov Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

One of my most profitable strategies over the last couple years has been betting against Ricky Stenhouse, who is just a bad driver. Always puts himself and other drivers in bad positions, has more self-caused wrecks than anyone else in NASCAR, and on Sunday he didn’t disappoint. He completed all of half a lap before we wrecked himself and took him out of the race. Which means he got no experience on the track, and is going to be at a real disadvantage with no laps ran at Darlington this year, and he’s starting in dead last. On the other hand, there were two very pleasant surprising performances on Sunday, one by Tyler Roddick and one by John Hunter Namecheck. Namecheck finished in 9th, and it was not a flukey top 10 finish where he got lucky on weather, a last-second crazy pit stop, or anything random. His car was great, he drove a superb race, it was very impressive. He’ll be starting 12th, and while starting positions don’t mean much in NASCAR, putting it all together with how good Namecheck was, the lack of learning about the track from Stenhouse, and you always have the possibility of Stenhouse doing something dumb, this is a bit of a juicy play at -134, but it’s still good value, and I’ll be confidently playing it.
