Benfica vs Midtjylland Analysis<\/h3>\n

2019-20 Danish Superliga champions (and back-to-back runners-up) FC Midtjylland travel over to Lisbon on Tuesday to take on Portugal\u2019s most successful ever club in Benfica in what will be a huge European matchup between the two clubs.<\/p>\n

Midtjylland kicked off their new 2022-23 Danish club season with one draw and one defeat, but absolutely blitzed past Odense on the road in their last game with a comprehensive 5-1 victory.<\/p>\n

Over in Portugal however, it’s now been back-to-back third-place finishes for Benfica in the league as they\u2019ve slipped off the pace domestically, but this is a team who always show up in Europe, reaching the Champions League quarter-finals last season against Liverpool and drawing 3-3 against them in Anfield.<\/p>\n

This will be the team\u2019s first meeting in European competition.<\/p>\n

Midtjylland Eager To Continue European Run<\/h3>\n

With FC Midtjylland reaching a Champions League group stage in 2020-21 and a Europa League group stage in 2021-22, the Danish side will no doubt be eager to keep that run going by reaching yet another big European competition this season also.<\/p>\n

However, being forced into a penalty shootout against last season\u2019s Cypriot runners-up AEK Larnaca in the previous round hardly bodes well for them ahead of this one and they\u2019ll need a huge performance boost here if they\u2019re going to overcome Benfica on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Life Without Nunez<\/h3>\n

Last season\u2019s Portuguese Primeira Liga top scorer Darwin Nunez headed over to Liverpool in the summer, a club he coincidentally scored twice against in last season\u2019s Champions League quarter-final, and Benfica are adapting to life without their star forward ahead of this year.<\/p>\n

21-year-old Goncalo Ramos has been the player most eager to step up to the plate scoring three goals over his last three pre-season friendlies for Benfica and he bagged three goals for the Portugal U21 team over the summer as well.<\/p>\n

Benfica vs Midtjylland Prediction<\/h2>\n

It\u2019s very difficult to see anything other than a comprehensive Benfica victory here on Tuesday, especially in a venue where they\u2019ve only lost to FC Porto and Liverpool since February, and with FC Midtjylland arguably in regression mode as well.<\/p>\n

However, laying -1.75 on the handicap is a little too rich for our blood, needing Benfica to win by at least three goals in order to fully cash our ticket, so we\u2019re going to combine the Benfica win with the over 2.5 goals in this one at -110 as the play for Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Benfica have seen an average of 5.67 goals per game over their last three home matches while FC Midtjylland have seen an average of 3.6 goals per game across their last five away matches, so plenty of action is expected in this one.<\/p>\n
