A Two-Team Race?<\/h3>\n
European and domestic conquerors Real Madrid easily took home the La Liga title last year with a 13-point cushion over next-best Barcelona in the race for the Spanish crown.<\/p>\n
The bookies are expecting a much tighter race this year however as while Real Madrid are currently favorites to defend their title yet again at odds of +110, Barcelona are hot on their heels at +150.<\/p>\n
2020\/21 champions Atletico Madrid appear to be the only other realistic contenders to the two super teams this season at odds of +500, with every other team featuring high in the double digits.<\/p>\n
Can Madrid Repeat the Highs of Last Year?<\/h3>\n
It would take a monumental effort for Real Madrid to match the highs of last year, winning both the highly-coveted Champions League and the domestic title in ruthless fashion with star striker Karim Benzema being one of the standout players in the whole of Europe last season.<\/p>\n
The Spanish giants aren\u2019t resting on their laurels however adding highly decorated Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger and Monaco starman Aurelien Tchouameni in the summer transfer window to bolster a somewhat aging defensive midfield line.<\/p>\n
While Real Madrid might not quite repeat the heroics of last season, they\u2019re more than warranted in being favorites for the LaLiga crown again this year.<\/p>\n
Barcelona Remain Front-Runners For Title Challenge<\/h3>\n
It was a tale of two seasons for Barcelona last season as they started off the year under former boss Ronald Koeman way out of the title picture, with just four wins from their opening 11 games by November 1st and languishing all the way down in ninth position in the table.<\/p>\n
That obviously forced change and Koeman\u2019s departure from the club brought in former club legend Xavi to replace him at the helm and Barcelona looked like a far more significant threat throughout the rest of the year.<\/p>\n
When the calendar flipped to 2022, Barcelona was the best team in La Liga overall, amassing 45 points from 20 games and Xavi will no doubt be eager to continue that impressive run to kick off this season as well.<\/p>\n
2022-23 Spanish La Liga Title Prediction<\/h2>\n
Last season was a huge anomaly in La Liga as despite Koeman\u2019s overall poor record to start the year and ranking ninth in the league overall at the time of his departure, Barcelona actually owned the league\u2019s best expected points tally at that time but results simply weren\u2019t going their way.<\/p>\n
Flip that over to 2022 and while Barcelona actually led the league in points gained over the calendar year, it was Real Madrid who actually did better in terms of overall expected points over the final 20 games than Barcelona did.<\/p>\n
Real Madrid had by far the best xG numbers on offense last season while Barcelona led the league on overall xGA defense so these two teams are incredibly well-matched and it\u2019s difficult to make a case for any other team to challenge them this season.<\/p>\n
Overall however, looking at who Barcelona has added to their roster in the off-season (Leeds star man Raphinha on the wing, AC Milan\u2019s top midfielder Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen in defense from Chelsea and of course, one of the world\u2019s premier strikers in Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich), it\u2019s fair to say Barcelona has upgraded their team that bit more when compared with their rivals and that should give them the necessary edge to claim their first domestic league title since the 2018\/19 season.<\/p>\n
Take Barcelona at +150 to win this season\u2019s Spanish La Liga title.<\/p>\n
