Palmeiras vs Athletico Analysis<\/h2>\n

Top of the table clash on Saturday over in the Brazilian Serie A as joint third-place Athletico PR travels over to the Allianz Parque in Sao Paolo to take on table-toppers Palmeiras in what should be an entertaining game this weekend.<\/p>\n

Athletico PR is on a fantastic run of form right now going unbeaten across their last 12 games in all competitions and winning nine of those games outright.<\/p>\n

Palmeiras, meanwhile, suffered their first loss since April in last week\u2019s Copa do Brasil against Sao Paolo and have won just one of their last three matches across all competitions.<\/p>\n

In terms of head-to-head matchups, Palmeiras haven\u2019t lost to Atheltico PR in almost five years, but the away side has lost just one of their last three against Palmeiras, drawing two.<\/p>\n

Defense Remains A Concern For Athletico PR<\/h3>\n

While Athletico PR remains one of the best performing teams in the league in recent games, their defense leaves a lot to be desired as they\u2019ve allowed the third-most shots out of any team in the league this season along with 11 goals from open play also, one of the highest tally\u2019s in the league and numbers you definitely don\u2019t want to be owning when taking on a team as high quality in attack as Palmeiras are.<\/p>\n

The data backs up those figures as well with Athletico PR ranking third-from-bottom in terms of overall expected goals against this season.<\/p>\n

Palmeiras On Fire Offensively<\/h3>\n

Palmeiras has been absolutely on fire offensively this year, ranking No. 1 in the league in goals scored, total shots and expected goals this season by a fairly wide margin.<\/p>\n

The difficult thing for Athletico PR ahead of this one is that Palmeiras have been even better at home this season, registering 2.29 goals per game in Sao Paolo as opposed to \u2018just\u2019 1.93 goals per game overall, 6.3 shots on target per game at home as opposed to 5.8 overall and 2.22 xG in Allianz Parque compared with 2.09 xG overall, which makes for some pretty formidable reading for any team looking to try and get a result on the road against the league leaders.

Palmeiras vs Athletico Prediction<\/h2>\n

Both of these teams rank first and second respectively in recent five-game form so a competitive matchup is expected here on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Saying that however, Athletico PR continues to paper over their cracks on defense this year with their offense often getting them out of tight spots (they scored four goals against Bragantino last weekend), but they\u2019ll no doubt run into trouble using that approach on Saturday against a defense in Palmeiras which has allowed just two goals at home all year to opponents (just 0.29 goals per game on average).<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, while I expect a Palmeiras victory in this one, I do expect it to be close so the Palmeiras to win by exactly one goal<\/strong> prop at a healthy +250 offers the best outright value in this one between Athletico PR and Palmeiras over in Brazil this weekend.<\/p>\n
