Stay on top of the latest MLB news and betting notes<\/a> from Vegas!<\/em><\/p>\n The Oakland Athletics travel to the Emerald City to take on the Seattle Mariners in the first of a four game weekend series. The A’s come off winning two of three from the Royals in Kansas City, and dropping three games in the Big Apple to the Yankees.<\/p>\n The Mariners took two of three games at home against the Baltimore Orioles. These teams played each other in a series June 21-23 in Oakland, and Seattle took all three games and outscored the A’s by a combined 19 runs to three.<\/p>\n On Wednesday night, the A’s are a +180 underdog and Seattle is a -215 favorite with the run total at 7.5. Rookie right hander Adrian Martinez gets the start for Oakland, while Logan Gilbert takes the bump for Seattle.<\/p>\n The Mariners are 36-41 and tied for 3rd with the Angels in the AL West, 12.5 games behind the Astros. Oakland has the worst record in MLB at 25-52, but a respectable road record of 17-24.<\/p>\n Thursday will be Martinez’s second game in the major leagues, after his first start in Detroit – which was a solid one. Back on May 10 in the Motor City he threw 5.1 shutout innings, gave up four hits, struck out three and hit a batter.<\/p>\n He’s spent most of 2022 in AAA with the Las Vegas Aviators, and his numbers aren’t that impressive. In 13 starts and 64.0 innings he has a 5.63 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP, but 73 strikeouts – that’s more than one per inning.<\/p>\n Logan Gilbert has been consistently good for the Mariners this year. He’s given up three runs or less in all but one of his 15 starts, and only gave up four earned runs in the other one.<\/p>\n Gilbert has pitched 88.2 innings and has a 2.44 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP with 89 strikeouts. The right hander’s control has been good as he’s given up just 25 walks and eight home runs, which pencils out to just over 2.5 walks and less than one long fly per nine innings.<\/p>\n The Mariners are about an average hitting team, with an overall OPS in the middle 1\/3rd of MLB, and an 18th best OPS against right handers.<\/p>\n This looks to be a big mismatch of starting pitchers with the rookie Martinez going against one of the better hurlers in the AL in Logan Gilbert. The A’s flew cross-country from New York to Seattle, while the Mariners stayed at home after their series with the Orioles.<\/p>\n Oakland is one of the worst hitting teams in MLB and this situation looks to be really good for the home team and really bad for the visitors. That’s why I’ll take Seattle on the run line.<\/p>\n Prediction: Seattle Mariners Runline (-1.5)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n
