New York Yankees vs Chicago Cubs Analysis<\/h2>\n

The Chicago Cubs head to the Big Apple where they begin a three game interleague series with the New York Yankees.<\/p>\n

The Yankees prevailed 10-7 in a back-and-forth slugfest to win the rubber match of a three game series over the Minnesota Twins. The Cubs lost 9-3 in what ended being a single game series against the Baltimore Orioles.<\/p>\n

Two veteran starters will be going head-to-head as 35 year-old southpaw Wade Miley returns to the rotation to be opposed by the right-handed Luis Severino. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST\/4:05 PST.<\/p>\n

Bombers Flex on Twins<\/h3>\n

The New York Yankees took home another series victory after outslugging the Minnesota Twins 10-7 in a game where they were behind 3-1 and 7-3. Joey Gallo hit two homeruns from the 9-hole while D.J. LeMahieu and Aaron Hicks each hit a blast of their own.<\/p>\n

Gerrit Cole set the wrong kind of history as he became the first Yankee pitcher to open a game with three consecutive homeruns allowed in a game where he ultimately gave up 5 blasts. His final stat line: 2.1IP, 7ER, 8H, 2BB, 3K, 5HR. Yikes!<\/p>\n

Still the Yanks prevailed as their relentless bats kept swinging for the fences. The Bronx Bombers own the top record in all of baseball at 41-16. New York is top five in runs scored with 4.86 per game while ranking 2nd with a .754 OPS.<\/p>\n

The Yankees send 28 year-old veteran Luis Severino to the hill. He has had an outstanding season so far, with a 4-1 record, 2.95 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. Severino has struck out 61 and walked only 14 and could actually have even better numbers as his xERA is .34 lower than his ERA.<\/p>\n

Wily Wade Miley Returns To Cubs Rotation<\/h3>\n

The Chicago Cubs are coming off a rare two day break after after getting rained out against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday and having a scheduled day off Thursday. The Cubs last game was a 9-3 drubbing at the hands of the Orioles.<\/p>\n

Keegan Thompson was shelled for seven runs in three innings and leadoff man Christopher Morel went 2 for 4 with a homerun, triple and two RBI.<\/p>\n

The Cubbies offense has actually been pretty solid with an average of 4.43 and a .721 OPS that ranks 10th in the majors. The Cubs record sits at 23-33, they occupy 4th place in the National League Central, 8.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers.<\/p>\n

Crafty veteran Wade Miley returns from the 15 day injured list to face a fearsome Yankee lineup. Miley had a no-decision in his last outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was a ho-hum start with three runs allowed on six hits across six innings.<\/p>\n

New York Yankees vs Chicago Cubs Prediction<\/h2>\n

No surprise, the New York Yankees are heavily favored at -250 on the money line with the Chicago Cubs set at +250 and a total of 8.5. This is a bad spot for Wade Miley as he moves off the injury list and walks into the buzzsaw that is the New York Yankees.<\/p>\n

The Bombers offense is on fire and they have been even better recently. They have an average of 6.83 runs per game over their last six games. After Miley, the Cubs sport a team ERA of 4.40 which ranks 26th in the league.<\/p>\n

I was going to tell you about how Luis Severino has even better numbers at home but that won’t be necessary. We cashed a play on the Yankees run line against the Twins yesterday but Cole made that play a roller coaster ride.<\/p>\n

Let’s take the pitching out of it and play the Yankees team total over. They will most likely need the five runs necessary to cash the run line regardless.<\/p>\n
