New York Yankees vs Los Angeles Angels Analysis<\/h2>\n

The Los Angeles Angels travel east to open a three game series in the Bronx against the New York Yankees. The Yankees left Tampa Bay with a split of a four game series after losing the final two games against the Rays. Meanwhile the Angels endured a brutal four game sweep at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays to extend their losing streak to five games.<\/p>\n

Two veteran starting pitchers will be featured in this game as southpaw Jordan Montgomery gets the nod to be opposed by the towering righty Noah Syndergaard. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM EST\/4:05 PST.<\/p>\n

Yankees Overcome Adversity<\/h3>\n

The New York Yankees occupy first place in the American League East with a 4.5-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays. They have the best record in the American League at 33-15, despite dealing with injuries to important players like Giancarlo Stanton, Josh Donaldson, D.J. LeMahieu, Tim Lacastro, Chad Green and Aroldis Chapman.<\/p>\n

They lost their last game 4-2 in Tampa Bay on Sunday afternoon against the Rays. Luis Severino was serviceable but took the loss after allowing four earned runs on two hits (both home runs) in 6.1 innings of work. Gleyber Torres went 3 for 4 with a solo blast and Aaron Judge went 2 for 4 with a solo job of his own.<\/p>\n

Everyone knows about the Bronx Bombers but pitching has carried this team. They rank third in ERA at 2.95 and second in WHIP at 1.08 while holding opposing hitters to only a .217 batting average, good for fourth-best in baseball. Jordan Montgomery will toe the rubber for New York, he is 0-1 with 3.30 ERA and 37 strikeouts.<\/p>\n

Angels’ Loaded Lineup<\/h3>\n

The Los Angeles Angels ended up on the wrong side of an 11-10 slugfest against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon. Shohei Ohtani belted two home runs, to give him seven this month. Patrick Sandoval had what was easily his worst start of the season, only lasting three innings while allowing six runs on five hits.<\/p>\n

It was a frustrating series for the Angels as three of four losses were by exactly one run and they were only outscored by a total of six runs in the four game sweep. Their record dipped to 27-23 which puts them four games behind the American League West-leading Houston Astros.<\/p>\n

This Los Angeles lineup is loaded between Ohtani, Mike Trout, Jared Walsh etc, they currently rank eighth with a .251 batting average, sixth in on-base percentage and second in slugging percentage. They also have the third-most runs in baseball with 235 on the season.<\/p>\n

The Angels will give the ball to Noah Syndergaard, who is 4-2 with a rock solid 3.08 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. He was near flawless in his last start, hurling eight innings of one run baseball with only four hits and zero walks allowed.<\/p>\n

New York Yankees vs Los Angeles Angels Prediction<\/h2>\n

At first glance, you would think runs by the boatload with Judge, Trout and Ohtani involved. But without Stanton, the Angels will have the option to pitch around Judge. The injuries are stacking up for the Yanks as they will also be without Josh Donaldson and multiple relievers.<\/p>\n

Noah Syndergaard will be motivated in his return to New York with the Angels. “Thor” has been an amazing free agency acquisition for the Angels thus far and I envision another solid outing in this situation. I also think that the Angel bats will come into this game hungry for a win and Trout, Ohtani and company should be able to do some damage to Montgomery.<\/p>\n

However, I don’t trust this LA bullpen whatsoever as they have a 5.81 ERA over their last seven games. Let’s go with the Angels +0.5 run in the first five innings at -115<\/strong>. A tie at the end of five innings will cash this ticket for us.<\/p>\n
