Rays vs Yankees Analysis<\/h2>\n

The New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays meet for the second game of their four game series on Friday evening from Tropicana Field. The Yankees prevailed 7-2 yesterday behind another absolutely filthy performance from starting pitcher Nestor Cortes.<\/p>\n

The Rays are trying to keep up in the American League East as they are currently second place behind the Yankees with a 26-18 record.<\/p>\n

Jameson Taillon gets the nod for New York, he will be opposed by Rays converted starter Jeffrey Springs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM EST\/4:10 PST.<\/p>\n

Yankees Overcome Adversity<\/h3>\n

The New York Yankees have been one of the most productive offenses in majors with a .731 OPS while averaging 4.8 runs per game.<\/p>\n

It will be interesting to see if this can continue as their lineup has been depleted by injuries. Leadoff man D.J. LeMahieu, third baseman Josh Donaldson and slugger Giancarlo Stanton are all either out or questionable.<\/p>\n

It’s even affected the pitching staff as Aroldis Chapman, Luis Gil, Chad Green and Johnathan Loaisiga are all dealing with injuries themselves. They overcame the injuries last night with a 7-2 victory over 2nd place Tampa Bay Rays.<\/p>\n

Nestor Cortes was lights out, hurling eight innings while allowing only a run on four hits. Aaron Judge drove in two runs with a single.<\/p>\n

Tonight they turn to right hander Jameson Taillon who is 4-1 with a 2.95 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. He has struck out 34 while only walking 5 in 42.2 innings of work.<\/p>\n

Rays Start Springs<\/h3>\n

The Tampa Bay Rays need to pick up a victory here to keep pace with the first place Yankees. After last night’s 7-2 loss, the Rays are now 5.5 games behind New York.<\/p>\n

Starter Ryan Yarbrough gave up three runs (two earned) in 5.1 innings pitched while bullpen allowed an additional four runs in the remaining innings.<\/p>\n

Outfielder Miguel Margot went 2 for 4 with an RBI double. The Rays have been an average team offensively this season with a .693 OPS that ranks 16th.<\/p>\n

Jeffrey Springs will start for Tampa Bay tonight in an attempt to gain ground on the Bronx Bombers. He has been rock solid with a 1.32 ERA and 0.80 WHIP across 27.1 innings in 12 appearances, two being starts.<\/p>\n

Rays vs Yankees Prediction<\/h2>\n

The Tampa Bay Rays are favored with a -120 money line, while the New York Yankees sit at +100 with a total of only 7. Last night’s game was a lot closer than 7-2 as the Yankees were being no-hit by Ryan Yarbrough until the 6th inning.<\/p>\n

The Yankees had the luxury of Nestor Cortes being untouchable, the Rays should have more success against Taillon.<\/p>\n

At first glance you would think this is a bullpen game for Tampa but Springs has been dominant. And even if it was just a bullpen game, the Rays are equipped to deal with that.<\/p>\n

Their bullpen is inching closer to the Yankees statically as time moves on and tonight the Yanks will be without the services of Loaisiga.<\/p>\n

The lineup will be missing Giancarlo Stanton and could be without D.J.LeMahieu and Josh Donaldson. Tampa Bay needs to split this weekend to keep their heads above water and I think it starts with a victory tonight.<\/p>\n
