Angels vs Rangers Analysis<\/h2>\n

The Texas Rangers take on the Los Angeles Angels in southern California for the second in a two game series. LA beat Texas last night 5-3 and looks for the sweep tonight. Right hander Glenn Otto takes the mound against rookie left hander Reid Detmers.<\/p>\n

Rangers Preview<\/h3>\n

Otto has shown flashes of good pitching this season, but doesn’t have good numbers with a 5.55 ERA with a 1.48 WHIP and 1-2 record in five starts. He has some control issues, giving up 13 free passes in 24.1 innings – that’s a rate of 4.85 walks per nine innings.<\/p>\n

And his advanced analytics don’t get any better with a .596 expected slugging percentage and xERA of 6.81. This means his ERA is expected to be 1 1\/4 points higher than his actual number.<\/p>\n

While they’re still not a great overall hitting team, the Rangers are much better versus southpaws as they have a 14th best OPS of .689. And lately, they’ve had a knack to hit mid to late inning long flies.<\/p>\n

Angels Preview<\/h3>\n

Reid Detmers has had a roller coaster type start to 2022. He’s been rocked in a few starts, but on May 10 he threw a complete game no-hitter against Tampa Bay. However, he hasn’t had great success against Texas.<\/p>\n

On April 15 in 3.1 innings he gave up six hits, five earned runs, walked one and struck out five. In his last start in Arlington on May 17 he went 3.2 innings, gave up three hits, three earned runs, two home runs, three walks and struck out four.<\/p>\n

Detmers isn’t an overpowering type pitcher with just 24 strikeouts in 34.2 innings, control is OK with about a 2.5 walks per nine innings rate.<\/p>\n

The Angels have crushed a lot of pitchers this season. But they’re really good against right handed pitching with a 2nd best OPS of .756, and Mr. Otto is a right-hander.<\/p>\n

Angels vs Rangers Prediction<\/h2>\n

The combination of two young and inconsistent pitchers combined with two lineups that can mash should equal a lot of balls flying towards the outfield.<\/p>\n

The weather is warming up in Orange County, and the forecast calls for winds at 5-10 blowing out to straight away center field.<\/p>\n

These trends point to runs being scored the way they vote in Chicago – early and often. Early Wednesday morning the over 4.5 run total was already at -125, so you may want to place this wager ASAP to get the best price before it goes up. Give me the 1st 5 Innings total runs over.<\/p>\n
