Angels vs Rangers Analysis<\/h2>\n

The Texas Rangers visit Angels Stadium to play the Los Angeles Angels Tuesday night in the first of a three game set. It’s a battle of right-handers with Dane Dunning and Noah Syndergaard getting the starts. The Halos look to get some payback against Texas after they got swept last week in Arlington.<\/p>\n

Rangers Preview<\/h3>\n

Dunning has pitched fairly well this year with a 3.92 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in eight starts and 43.2 innings. His last start was May 18 against the Angels where we went 6.0 innings, gave up three hits, three walks and two earned runs.<\/p>\n

While the Rangers don’t have great offensive stats with a 3rd worst team OPS and OPS versus right handed pitchers, they’ve relied on timely home runs for more production at the plate. Late inning long balls were a big reason that Texas swept three games from Los Angeles to last week.<\/p>\n

Angels Preview<\/h3>\n

Noah Syndergaard has pitched okay for the Angels this year, but hasn’t been overpowering. Thor is 3-2 with a 3.60 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP in 30 innings, with eight walks and 22 strikeouts.<\/p>\n

He got rocked in his last start against Texas, giving up six runs (four earned), four hits and two walks with one strikeout – in just 0.2 innings. Ouch.<\/p>\n

And in his last three starts, he’s 1-2 with a 5.54 ERA and 1.77 WHIP. Granted, it’s bloated due to his last start, but these numbers don’t give me a lot of confidence in the hard-throwing right-hander.<\/p>\n

This year, the Angels finally have Trout and Ohtani healthy at the same time, and it’s translated to great results at the plate. The Halos have the 2nd best OPS in MLB, and are tied for 1st with the most home runs with the Yankees at 59.<\/p>\n

Even with Syndergaard’s poor recent performance, the pitching staff is also carrying their weight with a 5th best ERA of 3.37 and 3rd best WHIP of 1.11.<\/p>\n

Angels vs Rangers Prediction<\/h2>\n

Both teams will see the opposing team’s pitcher for the second time in a week, which gives the advantage to the hitters. Syndergaard’s advanced analytics have declined in the last few weeks, and doesn’t look like he’s 100 percent.<\/p>\n

Dunning also has inflated numbers versus the Angels, and the total for this game opened at 8 but has been steamed up to 8.5 with juice at -115 or -120. If the sharp money likes the over, so do I. Give me the full game over.<\/p>\n
