Astros vs Guardians Analysis<\/h2>\n

The Cleveland Guardians visit Minute Maid Park to play the Houston Astros in the first of a three game series, with Zach Plesac getting the start against Luis Garcia. Houston is a -195 favorite, while Cleveland is a +165 dog.<\/p>\n

Guardians Preview<\/h3>\n

The Guardians have lost three of four at home – split with the Tigers and lost two to the Red – and Houston won three of four at home from the Rangers. Plesac has fairly average numbers with a 4.42 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 38.2 innings of work.<\/p>\n

He hasn’t posted big strikeout numbers with only 23, has issued 12 walks, but has given up six home runs and one in each of his last four starts. That could be a problem against as Astros team with a 3rd best OPS of .750 against right handed pitching.<\/p>\n

Team offense is just above average at 13th with a .705 OPS, but an 8th best average at .246. Pitching has been a bit of an issue as their staff ERA is 22nd, however, have an 11th best WHIP at 1.19.<\/p>\n

Astros Preview<\/h3>\n

After a slow start to the season, Houston has regained their form as one of the best teams in baseball. They have a 7th best OPS of .723 and 2nd best staff ERA of 2.84.<\/p>\n

Luis Garcia has really good numbers this year with a 3.35 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in seven starts and 37.2 innings of work.<\/p>\n

He had a problem with the long ball earlier this year, but seems to have solved that giving up just one home run in his last three starts.<\/p>\n

Astros vs Guardians Prediction<\/h2>\n

Both teams can hit against right handed pitching, with the 3rd and 5th best OPS in baseball. However, Cleveland is 2-10 in their last 12 games as a road underdog, and Houston is 4-1 versus the Guardians in their last five games at home.<\/p>\n

The Astros are a better team playing with more confidence, so I’ll take Houston on the run line.<\/p>\n
