Dodgers vs Phillies Analysis<\/h2>\n

The Philadelphia Phillies play the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second of a four game series. Kyle Gibson gets the start against Walker Buehler. Thursday night the Phillies got to Tyler Anderson early for several runs, then had to hang on for a 9-7 win.<\/p>\n

Phillies Preview<\/h3>\n

The Fightin’ Phils have played better baseball as of late, taking two of three in Seattle before winning the series opener at Chavez Ravine.<\/p>\n

Zack Wheeler held the Dodgers to three earned runs in 5.1 innings and struck out seven, and the offense outscored LA in the later innings to get the win.<\/p>\n

Kyle Gibson is off to a solid start to his 2022 campaign. In six starts and 33.2 innings he has a 2.94 ERA and an impressive 1.07 WHIP.<\/p>\n

His career numbers aren’t quite as good, over 1370.0 innings of work he’s compiled a 4.41 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. Based on this big difference, it looks like the veteran right-hander could be due for some negative regression.<\/p>\n

The hitting is the main strength of this team, as Philadelphia has the sixth-best OPS against right handed pitchers at .728 and 3rd best overall OPS of .735. However, their team ERA is 22nd best at 3.97 with a 1.27 WHIP, and the bullpen ranks 26th in MLB with a 4.29 ERA and 1.36 WHIP.<\/p>\n

The relief corps is the Achilles heel of the Phillies. That’s why one baseball analyst compared this team to a beer league slow-pitch softball team, where they have to outscore their opponents to win.<\/p>\n

Dodgers Preview<\/h3>\n

Walker Buehler is pitching like one of the best hurlers in the National League. In six starts and 36.2 innings he has a 1.96 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, allowing 30 hits, nine walks and just two home runs.<\/p>\n

And last night the Dodgers showed they have enough power at the plate to overcome a several-run deficit. Especially against a shaky Phillies bullpen.<\/p>\n

The team is tied for 6th-best OPS with the Rockies at .721, and they have the lowest staff ERA in baseball at 2.48. The nine runs Dodger pitchers gave up last night was an exception, and they should be due for a better performance tonight.<\/p>\n

Dodgers vs Phillies Prediction<\/h2>\n

Gibson should be able to keep the game close with Buehler through the first five innings. And the Phillies offense is just about as good as LA’s lineup However, the advantage goes to the Dodgers bullpen, which is one of the best in baseball.<\/p>\n

I don’t expect them to be down five runs again going into the later innings. After dropping three of their last four games, this team is due for some positive regression. That’s why I’ll take Los Angeles on the run line.<\/p>\n
