Dodgers vs Phillies Analysis<\/h2>\n

The Philadelphia Phillies travel to Chavez Ravine to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first of a four game series. Right hander Zack Wheeler takes the bump against southpaw Tyler Anderson.<\/p>\n

The Phils are coming off a series win in Seattle against the Mariners, while the Dodgers look to shake off losing two of three from the Pirates in Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

Phillies Preview<\/h3>\n

After a couple of crooked-number outings, Zack Wheeler has pitched really well in his last two starts. On April 28, he went 6.0 innings against the Rockies giving up just one hit, no earned runs, four walks and struck out seven; then on May 4 versus the Rangers he pitched 7.2 innings, giving up six hits, one walk, no runs and struck out seven.<\/p>\n

If there’s one thing the Phillies can do really well, it’s hit the baseball. They have a 3rd best team OPS of .727 and .249 batting average. The Achilles heel of this team has been pitching, as they’re 20th in MLB with a team ERA of 3.87.<\/p>\n

Dodgers Preview<\/h3>\n

Before they traveled to the Steel City, the Dodgers were playing really well. They took two of three from the Tigers at home, swept the Giants in a two-game set and took all three games they played in Chicago.<\/p>\n

So they may have been a little “fat and sassy” before they got humbled by the lowly Pirates. We’ll see how they respond at home against the Phillies.<\/p>\n

Dodgers starter Tyler Anderson has pitched consistently well in his first five starts, giving up no more than two earned runs every time on the hill. In 22.2 innings of work he has a 2.78 ERA and 0.97 WHIP, giving up 17 hits and five walks with 22 strikeouts.<\/p>\n

This is a big difference from his career numbers, a 4.55 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP in over 646 innings of work, so he could be due for some negative regression.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers team stats for the year are A-OK with the lowest team ERA at 2.25, and 9th-best OPS of .715.<\/p>\n

Dodgers vs Phillies Prediction<\/h2>\n

Zack Wheeler has pitched really well for the Phillies with his last two starts of six-plus innings. But his teammates have let him down with a loss or no decision in four out of five starts.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers have one of the top pens in baseball and enough firepower at the plate to overcome almost any deficit. I can’t trust the Fightin’ Phils for the full game, but I trust Wheeler enough to keep it close before handing it off to the bullpen. That’s why I’ll take the Phillies on the 1st five innings run line.<\/p>\n
