Diamondbacks vs Marlins Analysis<\/h2>\n

The Miami Marlins visit Chase Field to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first of a three-game set. It’s a battle of right-handers with Elieser Hernandez going against Humberto Castellanos.<\/p>\n

Arizona just took two of three at home from the Rockies, while Miami had three one-run losses out of four games in San Diego. The D-Backs also swept the Marlins in Miami a week ago. so we’ll see if they can return the favor in the desert.<\/p>\n

Marlins Preview<\/h3>\n

It’s an interesting line with Miami listed as slight favorites on the road, and I’m not sure why. Hernandez hasn’t pitched that well for the Marlins this year in 24.1 innings, with a 6.66 ERA, a 1.44 WHIP, giving up 27 hits and seven home runs. And Miami has lost six out of their last seven games, and all by one run.<\/p>\n

On a positive note, their bullpen has a 7th-best ERA of 3.05 and a WHIP of 1.17. And the Marlins hitting is 15th best with a .685 OPS and .231 team batting average.<\/p>\n

Diamondbacks Preview<\/h3>\n

Arizona has won seven of their last 10 games, and has found a power surge at the plate. The Snakes are tied for 7th most home runs in baseball with 31, Christian Walker and Daulton Varsho lead the team with six long flies each.<\/p>\n

Starter Humberto Castellanos has decent numbers to start the year, with a 4.12 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in four starts and 19.2 innings of work. His last start was May 3rd in Miami, where he threw 5.2 innings of shutout ball, only giving up four hits and no walks.<\/p>\n

One of the points of emphasis for Arizona this off-season was to shore up the bullpen. Unfortunately, that hasn’t panned out as their relievers have a 4th-worst ERA of 4.71 and a WHIP of 1.41.<\/p>\n

Diamondbacks vs Marlins Prediction<\/h2>\n

The Marlins have only won three of their last 10 games, while Arizona has won seven of their last 10, and have played good ball to start the season with a better than expected 15-14 record. Hernandez has a 6-plus ERA and I don’t understand why Miami is the slight favorite in this matchup.<\/p>\n

Miami has also lost 16 of its previous 21 games against NL West teams. And according to Covers.com, Arizona has been the most profitable team for bettors to back this season – even though they’ve been considered a bad team by the general public. If I can get a home underdog playing well for plus money, sign me up. I’ll take Arizona on the moneyline.<\/p>\n
