Dodgers vs Giants Analysis<\/h2>\n

The San Francisco Giants visit southern California to play the Los Angeles Dodgers in the last of a two-game series. The home team got a 3-1 win last night, and tonight Alex Wood goes against a starter TBD, which probably means this is a bullpen game for the Dodgers.<\/p>\n

Giants Preview<\/h3>\n

After a better than expected start to the season, the Giants have dropped four of their last five games. But they still have a solid record of 14-9, just 1.5 games behind division leading LA.<\/p>\n

Starter Alex Wood pitched well in his first three starts, but had a rough outing against the hot-hitting Nationals on the 29th – after he faced them for the second time in less than a week.<\/p>\n

His career numbers are solid with a 3.51 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP and averaging almost a strikeout per inning. Wood pitched for the Dodgers from 2015 to 2018 and again in 2020, so he should know their lineup and tendencies fairly well.<\/p>\n

The Giants hitting is middle-of-the-road, with a 16th-best OPS of .686 with a .235 batting average. But they do have some offensive help on the way soon.<\/p>\n

Mike Yastrzemski is coming off a positive Covid test in Washington. With another negative test, he could rejoin the team as soon as tonight; and Lamonte Wade Jr. is on a rehab assignment with AAA Sacramento. While he should be back in the lineup soon, manager Gabe Kapler hasn’t given a definite date.<\/p>\n

Dodgers Preview<\/h3>\n

Some major league teams would be nervous about using their bullpen to pitch a full game. But based on early 2022 stats, the Dodgers shouldn’t be one of them.<\/p>\n

They have a 4th-best bullpen ERA of 2.74, the lowest WHIP at 0.90 and the least amount of walks given up at 19. I really like this last number, because it shows they’re throwing strikes and not giving free passes that can come back to haunt a baseball team.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers started the year hitting fairly well, but have regressed a bit over the last several games, down to a 13th-best OPS of .698 and a .235 batting average.<\/p>\n

Dodgers vs Giants Prediction<\/h2>\n

I think this will be another good matchup between Alex Wood and the Dodgers bullpen. And the Giants pen isn’t exactly chopped liver, with a 3rd-best ERA of 2.63. With both lineups struggling, I see this as another hard-fought, low scoring game. That’s why I’ll take the full game under.<\/p>\n
