Tigers vs Yankees Analysis<\/h2>\n

The Detroit Tigers welcome the New York Yankees to Comerica Park for the first game of a three game series on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

The Yankees are .500 with a 5-5 record after losing two of three games in Baltimore against the Orioles. The Tigers won two in Kansas City against the Royals and improved to 4-5 on the season.<\/p>\n

These teams each swept a three game home series in last seasons head-to-head action for a 3-3 record. New York sends veteran ace Gerrit Cole to the mound, while Detroit leans on south paw Tyler Alexander.<\/p>\n

Yankee Hitters Struggle At The Dish<\/h3>\n

The New York Yankees pitching has been incredible early on, but the Yankees sit at .500 due to the inability to score runs.<\/p>\n

The Bronx Bombers only managed to score six runs in a three game series against the lowly Baltimore Orioles pitching staff.<\/p>\n

They were shutout in the final game of the series with a total of only four singles and three walks. Starting pitcher Nestor Cortes was electric, tossing five scoreless innings while only allowing three hits and one walk while fanning 12 Oriole hitters.<\/p>\n

D.J. LeMahieu was the lone bright spot at the dish with two singles and a walk. Ace Gerrit Cole will look to right the ship for both himself and his team.<\/p>\n

Cole was off in his last outing against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. He allowed three runs on four hits one walk while striking out six in 5.2 innings. Cole has struggled in his first two starts of this campaign with a 5.59 ERA in 9.2 innings of work.<\/p>\n

Tigers Slowly Changing Stripes<\/h3>\n

The Detroit Tigers are hoping to get to the next level as they added shortstop Javier Baez via free agency and have intriguing young players like Spencer Torkelson.<\/p>\n

However, their lineup has been lifeless with a .608 team OPS that ranks 26th in the MLB. Despite that they managed to win two of three against their division rivals the Kansas City Royals.<\/p>\n

They did lose the last game of the series 3-1, scoring the single run on a Dustin Garneau RBI single in the top of the second inning.<\/p>\n

Starter Matt Manning went just two innings before leaving with shoulder discomfort. Austin Meadows has hit well going 10 for 24 with a pair of RBIs. He has an amazing track record against the Yankees.<\/p>\n

In 44 games he has a .267 batting average with 14 home runs, 30 RBI and 26 runs scored. Tyler Alexander will get the ball after going 5.1 innings in his first start of the season against the Boston Red Sox. The 27 year old was effective, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four.<\/p>\n

Tigers vs Yankees Prediction<\/h2>\n

The New York Yankees are huge favorites with a -200 money line while the Detroit Tigers are +170 underdogs with a total set at 8. Both offenses have been unable to generate hits, New York ranks 18th with a .229 batting average while Detroit ranks 27th with a .201 average.<\/p>\n

The Yankees have black holes like Joey Gallo in their lineup who is unable to buy a hit. Both teams also have dynamite bullpens, the Yankees rank 2nd in ERA while the Tigers rank 10th.<\/p>\n

Tyler Alexander was able to work his way through the Red Sox potent lineup while only allowing three runs. Gerrit Cole has struggled a bit, but is obviously still one of the best pitchers in the game today. He also has an easier lineup to maneuver through compared to Toronto and Boston.<\/p>\n

The last four head-to-head meetings between these squads went under and I’m expecting that be the case tonight at spacious Comerica Park.<\/p>\n
