Lyon vs West Ham Analysis<\/h2>\n

A close game is expected here on Thursday with West Ham looking to move into their first European semifinal appearance since 1975\/76, so a lot at stake here heading over to Lyon.<\/p>\n

Facing them are a Lyon side who has been poor this season domestically with just one win over their last four inside Parc Olympique Lyonnais, that coming against 14th-place French Ligue 1 side Angers last week.<\/p>\n

History Beckons For West Ham<\/h3>\n

It\u2019s been almost half-a-century since the Hammers last graced a European semifinal and all eyes will be on France here to see if they can reach another historic club milestone.<\/p>\n

West Ham does come off a sub-par 2-0 loss to rival London club Brentford over the weekend, but that was little surprise as with a top-four position slipping away for the Hammers this season over in the EPL, all their focus will be on doing well in this competition.<\/p>\n

Lyon Looks To Break English Hoo-Doo<\/h3>\n

Lyon come into this game off the back of some really poor form, winning just once over their last six games in all.<\/p>\n

Possibly more concerning even than that however is the fact Lyon have a terrible record at home against English opposition in Europe, winning just three of 11 games in European competition inside Parc Olympique Lyonnais.<\/p>\n

With the fact that two of those three wins came all the way back in the 1960\u2019s as well, Lyon should very much be on guard against history repeating itself here.<\/p>\n

Lyon vs West Ham Prediction<\/h2>\n

We\u2019re going to look towards taking the under in this one at a line of 2.5 goals.<\/p>\n

A lot of the talk approaching this game has been that Lyon might well be without first team goalkeeper Anthony Lopes who got injured at the weekend while West Ham could be without two of their most high profile defenders for this game with Aaron Cresswell serving a ban due to his red card last week and Kurt Zouma suffering an ankle injury against Brentford at the weekend also.<\/p>\n

While on the surface that might suggest goals here, it also suggests both teams will be extremely cautious here also as with two huge holes in both of their respective defenses, retention of the ball will be paramount in this one.<\/p>\n

The under 2.5 has cashed in nine of West Ham\u2019s eleven Europa League games this season and in Lyon\u2019s last four Europa League games as well.<\/p>\n
