Washington Capitals vs Tampa Bay Lightning Analysis<\/h2>\n

The Tampa Bay Lightning have suffered back-to-back losses as they come off a lopsided 6-2 loss at home on Monday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs.<\/p>\n

The Leafs took over in the second period of that game with Auston Matthews continuing his red-hot goal form of late with three goals and one assist in Monday\u2019s win.<\/p>\n

The Washington Capitals, meanwhile, are coming back off back-to-back defeats of their own, with an offense that has simply failed to get going over recent games. Just one goal per game over their last two starts against Minnesota and Carolina respectively has seen the Capitals lose some steam of late.<\/p>\n

This will be the teams\u2019 third and final meeting of the season after Tampa won both of the previous matchups both home and away earlier in the year.<\/p>\n

Tampa Bay Looking For The Sweep<\/h3>\n

Despite playing both games reasonably close this season, Tampa Bay\u2019s experience in big-game situations ensured they got by the Capitals in both of their head-to-head matchups this season.<\/p>\n

Tampa Bay was actually the first team to halt Washington\u2019s eight-game point streak earlier this year as the Lightning dominated faceoff win percentage in that second game with Tampa Bay goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy stepping up with a .939 SV% night also.<\/p>\n

Capitals In Comfortable Position<\/h3>\n

Despite just two wins from their last six games overall, the Washington Capitals are in no immediate danger of dropping out of their Wild Card berth right now.<\/p>\n

With Columbus and the Islanders losing steam to close out the season, it\u2019s allowed the Capitals to take stock of where they are ahead of the postseason and Wednesday\u2019s game against the defending champions should be a great litmus test of exactly where they stand.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re going with the Tampa Bay Lightning in this one to get the road win against the Washington Capitals.<\/p>\n

Despite their recent two game losing streak, Tampa Bay is still firing on all cylinders offensively, scoring 3.5 goals on average over their last six starts.<\/p>\n

Compare this against a Capitals’ offense which has simply failed to get going over recent games, scoring more than two goals in just one of their last five home starts, and it\u2019s clear the Lightning are in the better form overall approaching this game.<\/p>\n

Tack on the fact also that Tampa Bay is a red-hot 40-13 in their last 53 matchups after getting blown out by 3+ goals in their last contest and we expect the Tampa Bay Lightning to bounce back with a victory<\/strong> here on Wednesday on the road against the Washington Capitals.<\/p>\n
