At third place in the Western Conference the Dallas Mavericks now have a first round series at home in their sights.<\/p>\n Meanwhile the Washington Wizards did themselves no favors winning so many games early on. They are now in no man’s land, out of the post-season while sitting way back in the upcoming Draft Lottery.<\/p>\n Porzingis Shows Off New Digs To Mavs<\/h3>\nKristaps Porzingis will face his former teammates for the first time since the deadline deal back in February.<\/p>\n He played two and a half seasons in Dallas before the Mavs decided to cut their losses and move on from the often-injured big man.<\/p>\n Porzingis led all scorers with 35 points in a victory over the Orlando Magic in his new teams most recent game. Tomas Satoransky had a unique zero point double double with 13 assists and 10 rebounds, while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 25 points.<\/p>\n While the Wiz have three of their last four games, the wins have come against two poor teams in the Detroit Pistons & Orlando Magic and a team missing key players in the Golden State Warriors.<\/p>\n Last night the Wiz were officially eliminated from post-season play, so it will be interesting how they utilize their personnel going forward. One thing is for certain, Kyle Kuzma will remain out of action on Friday night with a knee injury.<\/p>\n The Wizards rank very closely in scoring and defense when you compare season numbers to that of their last ten or fifteen games.<\/p>\n Better Off Without You<\/h3>\nThe Dallas Mavericks have clinched a playoff spot and are now looking to secure homecourt advantage in the first round.<\/p>\n They ran through March like a buzzsaw, winning 12 of 17 games including their last three. In their latest victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Luka Doncic led the team in points with 35, assists with 13 and rebounds with 9.<\/p>\n One rebound short of another triple double, simply amazing. The Mavericks now occupy the 3rd seed, owning the tie-breaker over the Warriors, but more importantly a two game lead over the fifth seeded Utah Jazz.<\/p>\n Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans will also be facing their former team, Dinwiddie in particular has thrived since joining the Mavericks.<\/p>\n No Maverick players are listed on the current injury report. The Mavericks offense is still bottom ten in scoring despite their recent success.<\/p>\n However defense is the story of the Dallas Mavericks success. Their defense has been a consistent top five, while their pace has consistently been the slowest in the league.<\/p>\n Washington Wizards vs Dallas Mavericks Prediction<\/h2>\nThe Dallas Mavericks are favored by 8.5 points with a total of 220.5. This is one is filled with storylines as it’s their first head-to-head meeting since the Porzingis deadline deal.<\/p>\n The Mavs seem to be content with the deal and Porzingis has played well recently himself. If I had to pick a side I would lean with Dallas, they are the third best against the spread in the league.<\/p>\n However 8.5 points is a good amount to cover especially with two slow paced teams. The Wizards team total is set at 105.5, a number they have fallen short of in five of their last eight games.<\/p>\n Playing against Porzingis may inspire the Mavericks to ratchet up the defense even more.
