The South Point 400<\/strong> takes place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway<\/strong>, a fast 1.5-mile tri-oval that is\u00a0one of NASCAR\u2019s premier intermediate tracks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The corners feature 20 degrees of banking<\/strong>,\u00a0 allowing drivers to carry tremendous speed while using multiple racing grooves as the track\u00a0changes throughout the race. Las Vegas rewards cars with strong aerodynamic balance and raw\u00a0 speed, but tire management becomes increasingly important during longer green-flag runs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drivers can search from the bottom of the track all the way up near the outside wall for grip,\u00a0making the ability to adjust to changing conditions extremely valuable. Kyle Larson, William\u00a0 Byron, Denny Hamlin, and Christopher Bell<\/strong> have been among the drivers who have shown\u00a0 strong speed on this style of 1.5-mile track, where the best intermediate programs generally rise to the front. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Track position and clean air are important, but pit strategy and late-race restarts can\u00a0 quickly shuffle the running order. The South Point 400<\/strong> combines high speeds, multiple grooves,\u00a0 tire falloff, and playoff pressure, making Las Vegas an important test of both driver ability and\u00a0 overall team strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Larson had the perfect race last week on a mile and a half track, he won all the stages,\u00a0won the race, and had fastest lap. He and the team are peaking at the right time, and\u00a0earlier in the season the Toyota\u2019s and Denny Hamlin were the best on these ovals by\u00a0far. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NASCAR put in a new rule about the support struts on the splitter, and since that\u00a0 change, the Toyota\u2019s haven\u2019t been nearly as dominant. Larson\u2019s last 3 finishes are 1st,\u00a0 2nd, 1st so nobody has been better recently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denny has also said he wasn\u2019t feeling right a few races ago, the tide has turned in NASCAR with Toyota\u2019s falling off and Larson\u00a0 being the best in the sport right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
