The 2026 college football season<\/strong> is shaping up to be another fascinating year in the SEC. Between major coaching changes, quarterback turnover, transfer portal additions and several legitimate College Football Playoff contenders, there is not much stability from top to bottom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several SEC programs enter 2026 with new head coaches, while a large portion of the conference could also feature a new starting quarterback. That makes evaluating the 2026 SEC football win totals<\/strong> especially interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia and Texas lead the conference with win totals of 9.5, while Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M sit at 8.5. At the other end of the board, Arkansas, Kentucky and Mississippi State have totals of just 4.5 wins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is a team-by-team look at the SEC entering the 2026 college football season, using last year’s records, returning starters, returning production, incoming talent, quarterback situations and coaching changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alabama Crimson Tide<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Alabama went 11-4 overall and 7-1 in SEC play last season, but the Crimson Tide enter 2026 with considerably less experience. Only seven starters return, and Alabama brings back just 48% of its overall production<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The biggest offseason question is quarterback. With Ty Simpson moving on, Keelon Russell and Austin Mack<\/strong> are expected to be the primary options for the starting job. Alabama still ranks No. 4 in the SEC in incoming talent, giving the Crimson Tide another roster loaded with highly rated players despite the turnover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arkansas Razorbacks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Few SEC programs underwent a bigger offseason overhaul than Arkansas. After finishing just 2-10 overall and 0-8 in conference play<\/strong>, the Razorbacks hired former Memphis head coach Ryan Silverfield. Arkansas brings back six starters and 55% of its production while ranking No. 42 nationally in incoming talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KJ Jackson and AJ Hill are among the quarterbacks expected to compete for the starting job as Arkansas begins a new era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Auburn Tigers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It is also a new era at Auburn. The Tigers hired Alex Golesh<\/strong> after a 5-7 campaign. Auburn returns only three starters, the lowest number in the SEC, although its overall returning production is a more respectable 57%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former South Florida quarterback Byrum Brown<\/strong> followed Golesh to Auburn, giving the Tigers an experienced option to run the new offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Florida Gators<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Florida may be one of the more interesting SEC teams to evaluate because so much has changed despite a sizable portion of the roster returning. The Gators went 4-8 last season but return nine starters and 66% of their overall production<\/strong>, including 77% on defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New head coach Jon Sumrall<\/strong> takes over the program, while Georgia Tech transfer Aaron Philo<\/strong> is expected to lead the offense at quarterback. The Gators’ offense finished outside the top-90 in points per game, yards per game and yards per play last season. Florida ranks No. 18 nationally in incoming talent, so the Gators have plenty of pieces to work with, but their schedule will once again be one of the hardest in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia Bulldogs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Georgia enters 2026 with one of the most experienced rosters in the SEC. The Bulldogs return an SEC-high 14 starters<\/strong>, including six on offense and eight on defense. Georgia also returns 68% of its overall production and owns the No. 9 incoming talent ranking nationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quarterback Gunner Stockton<\/strong> returns after Georgia’s 12-2 season, giving the Bulldogs valuable continuity at the most important position on the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia’s 9.5 win total<\/strong> is tied with Texas for the highest in the SEC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kentucky Wildcats<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kentucky enters a transition season following the end of the Mark Stoops era. Will Stein<\/strong> takes over as head coach after Kentucky finished 5-7 last season. Stein, the son of a former Kentucky football player with deep ties to the region, arrives back in Lexington after serving as Oregon’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach over the last three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Wildcats return only five starters and 46% of their production, the second-lowest percentage in the SEC. Notre Dame transfer Kenny Minchey<\/strong> is expected to take over at quarterback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kentucky has one of the conference’s lowest 2026 win totals at 4.5<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LSU Tigers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the biggest stories in college football resides in Baton Rouge, where Lane Kiffin takes over at LSU<\/strong>. The Tigers finished 7-6 last season, but expectations have quickly risen. LSU ranks No. 1 in the SEC in incoming talent<\/strong> while returning 61% of last season’s production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arizona State transfer Sam Leavitt<\/strong> gives Kiffin a new quarterback around whom to build the offense. Offensive guru Charlie Weis Jr. followed Kiffin from Ole Miss to Baton Rouge, while defensive coordinator Blake Baker remains with the Tigers as a holdover from the previous regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ole Miss Rebels<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ole Miss enters 2026 after a tremendous 13-2 season<\/strong>, but the Rebels will have to adjust to a significant coaching change. Former defensive coordinator Pete Golding<\/strong> is now the head coach after Kiffin’s departure. Ole Miss returns 10 starters and 61% of its overall production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most important returning piece may be quarterback Trinidad Chambliss<\/strong>. That continuity could be especially important for a program transitioning to a new head coach and offensive staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mississippi State Bulldogs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mississippi State improved to five victories last season but still finished just 1-7 against SEC competition. The Bulldogs return seven starters and 48% of their production. Quarterback Kamario Taylor<\/strong> returns, while Mississippi State ranks No. 27 nationally and No. 13 in the SEC in incoming talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bulldogs’ 2026 win total is 4.5<\/strong>. Mississippi State joins Oklahoma and Georgia as the only three schools in the SEC with a returning head coach, both returning coordinators and a returning quarterback. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Missouri Tigers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Missouri is coming off an 8-5 campaign but faces significant offensive turnover entering 2026. Only 29% of the Tigers’ offensive production returns<\/strong>, creating one of the biggest roster questions in the SEC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ole Miss transfer Austin Simmons<\/strong> is expected to become Missouri’s starting quarterback, while new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey will oversee the offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oklahoma Sooners<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Oklahoma may have one of the SEC’s most experienced rosters entering the 2026 college football season. The Sooners bring back 14 starters<\/strong>, which is tied with Georgia for the conference lead, along with 68% of their production. That includes an impressive 75% of offensive production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quarterback John Mateer<\/strong> returns after Oklahoma’s 10-3 season and berth in the College Football Playoffs. As mentioned above, Oklahoma joins Georgia and Mississippi State as the league’s only three schools with a returning head coach, both coordinators and a returning quarterback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite all of that returning experience, Oklahoma’s 2026 win total is 7.5<\/strong>. Per Jeff Sagarin’s ratings, the Sooners played the 11th-hardest schedule last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Carolina Gamecocks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

South Carolina went just 4-8 last season, but the Gamecocks bring considerably more continuity into 2026. Ten starters return along with 68% of total production<\/strong>, including an SEC-high 76% on offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quarterback LaNorris Sellers<\/strong> returns as the centerpiece of the offense, while Kendal Briles takes over as offensive coordinator. The Gamecocks desperately need a boost on that side of the ball after ranking No. 109 in yards per game and No. 104 in points per game last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tennessee Volunteers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Few teams in the conference return more starters than Tennessee. The Volunteers bring back 13 starters<\/strong>, including eight on offense and five on defense, while returning 62% of their overall production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The biggest change comes at quarterback, where George MacIntyre or Faizon Brandon<\/strong> is expected to take over the offense. Well-traveled defensive coordinator Jim Knowles arrives in Knoxville, hoping to make one more splash after a difficult stint at Penn State last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Texas Longhorns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Texas enters 2026 with one of the most complete profiles in the SEC. The Longhorns return 12 starters and 68% of their production while owning the No. 3 incoming talent ranking nationally and No. 2 ranking within the SEC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most importantly, Arch Manning returns at quarterback<\/strong>, providing Texas continuity at the position after last year’s 10-3 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Texas has a 9.5-win total<\/strong>, tied with Georgia for the highest number in the conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Texas A&M Aggies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Texas A&M is another program carrying high expectations after an 11-2 season<\/strong>. The Aggies return nine starters and 65% of their production. Quarterback Marcel Reed<\/strong> is back as well, giving Texas A&M valuable offensive continuity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Aggies also rank No. 10 nationally in incoming talent but will have new coordinators on both sides of the football. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vanderbilt Commodores<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Vanderbilt might have the most eye-catching difference between its 2025 record and 2026 expectations. The Commodores are coming off a remarkable 10-3 season and 6-2 SEC record<\/strong>, yet their 2026 win total is only 5.5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vanderbilt returns 10 starters but only 44% of its overall production<\/strong>, the lowest percentage of any SEC team in this group. Only 38% of the offensive production returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freshman quarterback Jared Curtis<\/strong> is expected to step into the spotlight, while Vanderbilt’s incoming talent ranks No. 32 nationally and No. 14 in the SEC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Stands Out About the 2026 SEC Football Landscape?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Looking across all 16 teams, there are several clear themes heading into the 2026 SEC football season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Experience is concentrated near the top.<\/strong> Georgia, Oklahoma and Texas each return at least 12 starters and 68% of their production. Tennessee is not far behind with 13 returning starters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quarterback turnover is widespread.<\/strong> Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Missouri and Tennessee are among the programs dealing with a new starter or preseason quarterback competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The coaching carousel was enormous.<\/strong> Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, LSU and Ole Miss all have new head coaches, meaning more than one-third of the conference changed leadership during the offseason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With major programs breaking in new quarterbacks, six new head coaches, substantial transfer portal movement and several experienced contenders returning much of their production, the 2026 SEC football season<\/strong> should provide plenty to follow from Week 1 through the College Football Playoff race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
