DWCS Week 1 Predictions<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Jon Kunneman (-450) vs Joe Kropschot (+275) <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jon Kunneman has built a reputation on doing the same thing every fight\u2014and very few opponents have been able to stop it. He wastes little time securing takedowns, quickly establishes dominant position, and hunts for the finish on the mat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

His combination of strength and technique has overwhelmed everyone he’s faced so far, and while the level of competition hasn’t been elite,  this matchup doesn’t appear to be much different. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kropschot has shown too many defensive holes to inspire confidence. He absorbs clean shots on  the feet, carries a tall stance that leaves him vulnerable to level changes, and hasn’t demonstrated the takedown defense needed to keep this fight standing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once Kunneman gets the fight to the ground, he should be in complete control. Look for Kunneman to secure another first-round  finish. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ananias Mulumba (-135) vs Tom Pagliarulo (-105) <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ananias Mulumba returns for his second appearance on the Contender Series after making a strong impression in his debut. He pushed Rahiki to the brink in a wild fight and easily could have earned a UFC contract that night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mulumba is a well-rounded fighter with sharp striking, a capable ground game, and the ability to finish fights in multiple ways. While his defense and  cardio aren’t perfect, his overall skill set is among the better ones on this card. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pagliarulo will enjoy a significant height and reach advantage, but that size may come at the  expense of speed. Mulumba should be the quicker athlete and the more polished striker, allowing  him to get inside and land the cleaner combinations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fighters making their second Contender Series appearance often look much more composed, and that experience should benefit  Mulumba. His striking should be the difference, making him the pick. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bilal Hasan (-2000) vs Mridul Saikia (+700) <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is one of the biggest mismatches on the card. Saikia has built his record against limited competition, and the one time he stepped up against a legitimate opponent, he was knocked out in just 37 seconds<\/strong>. He lacks the power, defensive fundamentals, and overall skill set to threaten a  fighter of Hasan’s caliber. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hasan is the superior striker in every category. His technique, speed, and power are on another  level, and he should have no trouble finding openings early. Unless something completely unexpected happens, look for Hasan to score a quick knockout victory. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abe Alsaghir (-120) vs Fabrizio Escarrega (-120) <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This has the potential to be one of the most entertaining fights on the card. Both men prefer to keep the fight standing, and neither has shown much interest in wrestling. Expect an all-striking  battle with plenty of heavy exchanges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Escarrega is an aggressive puncher who likes to dictate the pace, but it’s difficult to know exactly  how good he is because he’s spent most of his career facing weak opposition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

His willingness to press forward often leaves him open to counters. Alsaghir has a similar style, throwing looping  power shots that have overwhelmed lesser opponents, but he also leaves himself exposed  defensively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With neither fighter likely to wrestle, this could come down to who lands first in the exchanges. Escarrega appears to be the slightly more composed striker, giving him a slight edge <\/strong>in what should be a highly competitive fight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
