Atletico vs Manchester United Analysis<\/h2>\n

The defending La Liga champions currently sit fifth in the table, a full 15 points behind league leaders Real Madrid. Last season\u2019s Premier League runners-up, Manchester United, sit in fourth position, but 17 points off the pace against cross-town rivals Manchester City at the top of the EPL table.<\/p>\n

Manchester United won their Champions League group back in the winter finishing just one point ahead of Villarreal, but struggled on the road in that group, registering just one win out of three away from Manchester.<\/p>\n

Atletico Madrid meanwhile finished second in their group behind Liverpool, but were way off the pace in terms of overall competitiveness as they finished a full 11 points off Liverpool in the final standings of Group B.<\/p>\n

This will be Atletico Madrid\u2019s and Manchester United\u2019s first meeting in this competition.<\/p>\n

Atletico\u2019s Inconsistency Showing<\/h3>\n

It\u2019s been an extremely inconsistent season for the current LaLiga champions over 2022, alternating wins and losses over pretty much the entire calendar year so far.<\/p>\n

On paper \u2018La Colchoneros\u2019 come off an emphatic 3-0 victory over Osasuna at the weekend, but the eye test looked anything but in that one.<\/p>\n

Atletico allowed Osasuna to dominate for large periods in that game and looked incredibly shaky at the back throughout the entire 90 minutes, hoofing balls forward blindly with Yannick Carrasco, who\u2019s out for this United game, continually urging the Atletico defense to calm down from over on the wing. Osasuna continually poured forward and crashed the ball against the bar at one stage as they hunted for the equalizer.<\/p>\n

The contest was extremely tight right up until Luis Suarez\u2019s wonder goal early in the second half, and even then Osasuna continued to press forward, and if the home side had better finishing in the final third, it\u2019s extremely possible they could have got something from that game.<\/p>\n

That better finishing is definitely something Atletico will face in this game however against a hi-powered Manchester United attack.<\/p>\n

United\u2019s Struggles in Spain<\/h3>\n

United come off a shaky performance themselves on Sunday, overcoming Leeds 4-2 in the EPL.<\/p>\n

United went 2-0 up early through a Harry Maguire header and a Bruno Fernandes goal and looked to be in relative cruise control before Leeds scored two goals in just 24 seconds early in the second half to completely blow the game wide open.<\/p>\n

Manchester United were able to recover in that one, eventually closing out the game 4-2 but that defense has been a problem for them all year and Joao Felix\u2019s pace should pose real problems for this Manchester United backline here on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

On top of that United have a fairly miserable record in Spain, winning just 21% of all of their UEFA road games against Spanish opposition over the club\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

Atletico vs Manchester United Prediction<\/h2>\n

We\u2019re looking towards taking goals in this one on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The goal line is set at a relatively low o\/u 2.25 here and that\u2019s just too low in our eyes in a matchup between two teams with severe defensive liabilities at the back this season.<\/p>\n

A lot of that low line may be based off the perception of Atletico at home over the last few seasons, a generally strong defensive team who allowed just 11 goals at home all year last season, good for number one in La Liga, but a total they\u2019ve already eclipsed this season with only 12 games gone.<\/p>\n

Manchester United is also incredibly defensively fragile right now, allowing the fourth-most xGA out of any team on the road in the English Premier League this season.<\/p>\n

However, up front is where both teams really shine with Joao Felix, Luis Suarez, Bruno Fernandes and Ronaldo all prolific goalscoring threats for either team this season.<\/p>\n

Manchester United have also scored in 18 of their last 19 competitive games as well with their last 12 Champions league games averaging 3.67 goals per game also.<\/p>\n
