Deserved or otherwise, there\u2019s just something odd about seeing Real Madrid priced as such a big underdog, as the case in this second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals at the Allianz Arena vs. Bayern Munich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pulling back a goal thanks to Kylian Mbapp\u00e9 after falling behind 2-0 last Tuesday at the Bernabeu in the first leg has at least thrown Los Blancos a bit of a lifeline headed into the second leg, which is about all that Real Madrid has left this season after losing contact with Barcelona atop the Liga table, managing only one point from recent Liga matches vs. down-the-table Mallorca and Girona and effectively dropping from the domestic title race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We also might have been a bit deluded by the Real Madrid name a year ago when thinking it could overcome a first-leg deficit in this same round vs. Arsenal, only to get run off of the pitch at the Bernabeu and convincing Carlo Ancelotti (if he wasn\u2019t already) that it was time to move to another dugout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are on record that Kylian Mbapp\u00e9 was a vanity signing by Florentino Perez two summers ago, and that Ancelotti didn\u2019t need another high-powered striker for a team good enough to win the Champions League without Mbapp\u00e9, especially as the presence of Vinicius was more than sufficient to distort enemy defenses. (That Vini and Mbapp\u00e9 prefer the same attacking role to the left of goal also presents a bit of a conundrum).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Though not the goal-scorer as is Mbapp\u00e9, many regard Vini as the more valuable of the two, and we note how sharp Real Madrid looked at the top of the knockout phase vs. Man City last month with Mbapp\u00e9 sidelined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alvara Arbeloa also hasn\u2019t proven much if any upgrade from Xabi Alonso, shamefully sacked after half of the season. Moreover, Real Madrid\u2019s sometimes-shaky defense has to deal again with Harry Kane and Michael Olise, the latter having bedeviled Arbeloa\u2019s defense in the first leg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid Prediction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Because we\u2019ve seen Real Madrid hit the straps so often, many times when unexpected in this competition, that we\u2019re reluctant to dismiss their chances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the likes of Mbapp\u00e9, Vini, and Jude Bellingham, Arbeloa still hatch match-winners of the highest caliber at his disposal, and don\u2019t forget Ferderico Valverde\u2019s recent hat-trick vs. Man City in the last round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It would help if Thibaut Courtois, dealing with a quad injury, can make it back in goal, though Andriy Lunin is a serviceable deputy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
