The Yankees’ lead in the AL East has evaporated, but it’s tough to put too much of the blame on New York’s offense. The Yankees went through a brutal stretch in mid-June where they scored a total of seven runs in seven games against the Royals, Red Sox and Angels. But since that stretch, the Yankees have scored an average of 5.23 runs per game over the last two weeks while hitting .266 with a .350 on-base percentage (No. 3 in MLB) and a 126 wRC+ (No. 8).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Yankees’ current lineup is hitting .257 in 115 plate appearances against Toronto’s Chris Bassitt with a 25.2-percent strikeout rate and a .328 weighted on-base average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A red-hot start at the beginning of the season has helped keep Chris Bassitt’s profile looking respectable, but he has an ERA over 5.00 across his last 13 starts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his last outing against the Red Sox, he allowed nine runs on eight hits with four walks in 2.0 innings. The Yankees enjoyed success against Bassitt in their prior meeting this season, generating four runs on six hits (including two home runs) in 5.2 innings at the end of April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Blue Jays’ current roster is hitting .254 in 76 plate appearances against Yankees’ starter Clarke Schmidt with a 21.1-percent strikeout rate and a .343 weighted on-base average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yariel Rodr\u00edguez has pitched on back-to-back days and is presumably unavailable on Thursday. Brendon Little and Yimi Garc\u00eda each threw more than 30 pitches on Wednesday, so that duo is also likely unavailable on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If the Yankees can find some success against Bassitt in the early innings, the Blue Jays may be forced to use some B-squad arms out of the bullpen in the later innings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
