New York Yankees<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Yankees have scored an average of 6.5 runs per game in their last six contests. So far in the month of June, the Yankees are hitting .276 (No. 3 in MLB) with a .359 on-base percentage (No. 3) and a 132 wRC+ (No. 3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will be Will Warren’s first start against the Royals, and he could really use a bounce-back performance. In his last two starts against the Dodgers and Red Sox, he allowed a combined 11 runs on nine hits and eight walks in 6.2 innings. Warren has failed to make it past 4.0 innings in five of his 13 starts this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kansas City Royals<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Seth Lugo’s box score numbers are respectable (3.46 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP), but a closer look under the hood tells a much different story. Lugo enters Thursday in the bottom-20th percentile among pitchers in expected ERA, expected batting average allowed, average exit velocity, chase rate, whiff rate and hard-hit rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His expected ERA (5.22) is nearly two runs higher than his actual ERA (3.46). His hard-hit rate has climbed from 39.0-percent last year to 47.4-percent this year. His average exit velocity has climbed from 88.5 mph to 91.1 mph. His expected weighted on-base average (.365) is nearly 50 points higher than his actual weighted on-base average (.316).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lugo faced the Yankees in The Bronx on April 14 and allowed a whopping four home runs in 6.2 innings. Paul Goldschmidt is 8-for-14 with two home runs and two walks against Lugo. DJ LeMahieu is 6-for-13 against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Royals vs Yankees Prediction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Royals’ bullpen has been put to work in this series, throwing 94 pitches on Tuesday then another 4.2 innings on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We mentioned how good the Yankees’ lineup has been so far in the month of June. Well, the Royals aren’t very far behind. The recent call-up of power-hitting prospect Jac Caglianone has lit a fire under this lineup. In June, Kansas City is hitting .290 (No. 1 in MLB) with a .332 on-base percentage (No. 6) and a 15.8-percent strikeout rate (No. 2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
