American and Mount St. Mary’s both finished their seasons with a 22-12 record, but both are top-5 in the country in KenPom’s Luck Rating. Since January 11, American has gone 15-3 straight-up, including 7-0 in games decided by four points or fewer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Eagles run their offense through 6-foot-9 senior Matt Rogers, who is able to score in the paint in addition to the three-point line. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The week-long break probably came at a good time for American because Rogers was wearing down at the end of the season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over the Eagles’ last six games, Rogers shot 9-for-27 from three-point range and he only attempted four shots from the field against Lafayette in the Patriot League Tournament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Early money has shown on the under in this contest, but we’re interested in being the buy-back. With the benefit of some hindsight, Mount St. Mary’s plays the perfect defense for the MAAC Tournament at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mountaineers look to take away the paint and will allow you to shoot a high volume from the three-point line. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In MAAC play, over 48-percent of field goal attempts against Mount St. Mary’s came from behind the three-point line. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The MAAC Tournament at Boardwalk Hall has almost always been low-scoring as opponents struggle with the unusual sightlines of the venue that doesn’t normally host basketball games. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mount St. Mary’s three opponents – Marist, Merrimack and Iona – combined to shoot 15-for-75 (20-percent) from three-point range against the Mountaineers. That strategy might not work on Wednesday in Dayton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mount St. Mary’s vs American Predictions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
American attempted the highest-number of three-point shots in the Patriot League this season, and the Eagles are top-60 in the country in three-point volume. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
American has shot over 35-percent from beyond the arc this season. We mentioned Rogers slowing down at the end of the year, but the Eagles have had a full week off to rest up for this one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
If Mount St. Mary\u2019s wants to give American open looks from the three-point line, that is a game that the Eagles are very comfortable playing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
If this game is tight and comes down to free throws, American is top-60 in the country in free throw shooting. The pace of play is likely to be slow, but there are enough avenues for this game to crawl over the total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
