The SWAC has earned the reputation as being the worst league in the country, but a big reason why is because nearly every school creates an impossible non-conference schedule every year. Nearly every team schedules a gauntlet of non-conference opponents to help balance the school’s athletic budget. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alabama State traveled to UNLV, LSU, Cincinnati, SMU and Missouri this season. That non-conference experience has helped the SWAC participant in the NCAA Tournament in recent years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Texas Southern won its opening round game in 2021 and 2022. Grambling won its opening round game last season. We believe Alabama State can keep that run going this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hornets are top-5 in the country in turnover rate this season. Senior point guard CJ Hines has started 61 out of a possible 62 games over the last two years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
His backcourt mate is senior TJ Madlock, who is the head coach’s son. That duo has played a lot of basketball together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
