Odds below courtesy of FanDuel Sports Book as of Thursday, March 6:<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2024: Shohei Ohtani LA Dodgers <\/p>\n\n\n\n 2023: Ronald Acuna Jr Atlanta Braves<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2022: Paul Goldschmidt St Louis Cardinals<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2021: Bryce Harper Philadelphia Phillies <\/p>\n\n\n\n 2020: Freddie Freeman Atlanta Braves <\/p>\n\n\n\n An MLB season-long future at +145 generally doesn’t seem very appealing but does anyone else even stand a chance against a now two-way player who has won an MVP in three of his last four seasons?<\/p>\n\n\n\n The only time in the last four seasons when Shohei Ohtani didn’t win the award was 2022, when he finished runner-up during Aaron Judge’s record-setting 62 home run season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Last season, He became the first 50-50 player in history with 54 home runs (NL leader) & 59 stolen bases and he finished with the top WAR (Wins above replacement) in National League at 9.1. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Ohtani became the first full-time designated hitter to win an MVP award and he’s likely to resume pitching in May which will generate even more WAR as a two-way player. <\/p>\n\n\n\n This line is also available at DraftKings at +170 but I still see value in the three-time MVP either way as it will take an injury to derail this play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Finding a complete player with the ability to dethrone Shohei Ohtani now that he’s returning to the mound is a difficult task, but Elly De La Cruz could prove to be just that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n His spring training numbers have been ridiculous as he’s already recorded six hits, three home runs, two doubles, five runs scored and five RBIs across 14 plate appearances and he just stole his first base on March 1st. <\/p>\n\n\n\n His first full major league season was 2024 and he finished with 25 home runs, 76 RBI, 105 runs scored and an MLB-high 67 stolen bases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n His OPS jumped from .710 to .809 and he could easily improve by another .100 points in 2025. Defense has been De La Cruz’s Achilles heel in his first two seasons as he ranked among the worst qualified defenders in errors in fielding percentage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n However, if you look at his advanced stats, he ranked in the 94th percentile in Fielding Run Value and in the 98th percentile in Outs Above Average.
