Auburn is unquestionably one of the best teams in the country and the Tigers will be a deserving No. 1 seed in next month’s NCAA Tournament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But Bruce Pearl still has a couple issues to address, particularly around Player of the Year candidate Johni Broome. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 6-foot-10 senior surprised a lot of people when he only missed two games in January following a nasty fall against South Carolina. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the time, his ankle injury looked like one that was going to keep him out of the lineup for quite some time. He only missed two games and returned two weeks after his injury. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Broome is still filling the box score, but his efficiency has taken a nose dive since that injury. Here are a couple numbers, courtesy of college basketball analyst Will Warren: Broome was shooting 59.7-percent at the rim prior to his injury, and he is shooting 50.7-percent at the rim since his return. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a team, Auburn was enjoying a +14.8-percent shooting advantage at the rim over its opponents prior to Broome’s injury. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since his return, the Tigers have been at a -1.1-percent shooting disadvantage at the rim. Auburn has struggled to regain its efficiency in the paint, both on the offensive and defensive ends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ole Miss has a defense that is capable of slowing down Auburn’s offense to a degree. The Tigers earned a 92-82 road win at Ole Miss on February 1, but a closer look at the box score tells a slightly different story. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Rebels’ defense held Broome to 5-for-12 shooting from two-point range. That game saw 61 points scored in the final ten minutes, including 22 points scored in the final two minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ole Miss vs Auburn Predictions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Auburn has been cold from three-point range over its last two games, combining to shoot 10-for-46 (21.7-percent) against Georgia and Arkansas. The Tigers shot 14-for-28 from three-point range against Ole Miss in the first meeting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
If this mini cold streak from beyond the arc continues for one more game and those threes are not falling, the Rebels’ defense can slow Auburn down in the paint. Since December 1, the under is 13-7 in Ole Miss’ last 20 games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
