\u00a0Iowa’s Fran McCaffery tried to take the easy route when creating the Hawkeyes’ non-conference schedule, and the gameplan didn’t work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Per KenPom, Iowa played the No. 352 non-conference schedule with five games against teams rated in the bottom-50 in the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hawkeyes did not play in any holiday events or neutral site tournaments. Presumably, that was done in an effort to help preserve Iowa’s legs for Big Ten play. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That hasn’t worked thus far. The Hawkeyes have lost four of their last five games, and they still haven’t played teams like Michigan State, Purdue, Maryland and Illinois yet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Any time Iowa has taken a step up in class, the Hawkeyes have gotten smacked: A nine-point loss to Iowa State, a 31-point loss to Wisconsin and a 24-point loss to UCLA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Big Ten play, Iowa is last in defensive efficiency, last in effective field goal shooting allowed, last in offensive rebounding rate, No. 17 in defensive rebounding rate, last in three-point shooting allowed, last in two-point shooting allowed and No. 16 in free throw shooting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And like we mentioned, those numbers are against a schedule that’s been missing four of the best teams in the conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Purdue vs Iowa Predictions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Purdue has won the last three meetings between these squads by 14, 19 and 14 points. In their last five meetings, Purdue has scored an average of 81.4 points per game in this matchup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Purdue’s offense is No. 1 in the Big Ten in efficiency, No. 2 in effective field goal shooting, No. 3 in turnover rate and No. 1 in two-point shooting. The Boilermakers have already won at Minnesota, Rutgers, Washington and Oregon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It’s going to take a rough shooting night for Purdue to fall short of covering this number against a team that they have dominated in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
