Since the beginning of December, Michigan’s last nine games have seen an average of 162.8 points per game, and that list of opponents includes Wisconsin, Iowa, Arkansas, Oklahoma, USC, UCLA and Washington. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oddsmakers are asking Minnesota’s defense to slow down an offense that has scored 85+ points in nine-straight games. We don’t see it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The over is 7-1 in Michigan’s last eight games. All eight of those games have seen at least 70 possessions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minnesota has to know that trying to grind this game into a slow bog is simply not going to work against an offense of Michigan’s caliber. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It hasn’t worked all season, hence the Gophers’ 0-6 start in Big Ten play. Minnesota’s offense has shown improved spurts in recent games, but the Gophers haven’t been able to do it for a full 40 minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minnesota opened last Friday’s game against Wisconsin with a 15-5 run in the first six minutes, then scored 44 points over the final 34 minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They pretty much did the exact same thing against Maryland on Monday, generating a 15-2 run early in the first half, then they went five minutes and only scored two points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The spurts are there and the three-point shooting has improved in Big Ten play, but the Gophers need to keep the pace up over 40 minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
If Minnesota head coach Ben Johnson goes into this game looking for a rock fight, the Gophers are going to find themselves in a big hole out of the gate. Fight fire with fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
