Marshall College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Charles Huff is 22-17 here (includes 1-2 in bowl games).\u00a0 This will be a fascinating team to preview.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024 Marshall NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I see a crazy balance sheet with plusses and minuses on it.\u00a0 On the plus side, if QB Griffis can win the job, I think that position improves.\u00a0 The easiest fix is that -13 turnover ratio.\u00a0 The goal is ZERO, which would save them nearly 50 points.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team has a new offensive coordinator (potential upgrade) and new OL coach (36 sacks allowed in each of the last two seasons).\u00a0 Defensively, the pass D% was solid (58%) and that unit returns decent talent.\u00a0 Here\u2019s the bad news: The RB room loses a star, although perhaps the NC St transfer can keep the #\u2019s close.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The WR unit is unknown.\u00a0 The defensive coordinator is in his 2nd season.\u00a0 His 1st season saw the point defense get worse, and the run defense get much worse.\u00a0 Four of their top five tacklers are gone, as are their top three pass rushers (19.5 sacks).\u00a0 Kicking was highly erratic.\u00a0 They went just 2-6 from 30-40 yards, but 4-6 from 40-50 yards.\u00a0 An elite kick returner is gone (30.7 on a hefty 23 returns).\u00a0 That\u2019s the balance sheet.\u00a0\u00a0

Marshall Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Marshall went 3-5 in the Sun Belt a year ago with a below par point ratio of 162-243.\u00a0 Ground has to be made up, but that\u2019s where flipping the turnover ratio helps.\u00a0 I think this looks 6-6 or 7-5, giving Huff his 4th<\/sup> straight bowl berth.\u00a0 QB play, and hoping the defensive coordinator is better than what he showed last year are the major keys.\u00a0 Huff seems like a decent coach, but a 4th<\/sup> straight mediocre season could put his job security in peril.\u00a0\u00a0
