James Madison College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

James Madison hit the ground running in their move to the Sun Belt.\u00a0 After going 8-3, they nearly ran the table last year, with just an overtime loss to Appalachian St before losing to Air Force in the bowl game (thanks).\u00a0 That game was AFTER their coach announced he was leaving for Indiana.\u00a0 Bob Chesney has won everywhere he has coached.\u00a0 His task won\u2019t be easy this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024 James Madison NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The staff and starting talent were purged by their former Head Coach.\u00a0 Nine starters are off to Indiana.\u00a0 Once highly touted, QB Dylan Morris has had a disappointing career (four years at Washington), but this move could be a good one.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two transfer RB\u2019s that I like are here.\u00a0 While the WR room has been shredded, the OL looks even better than a year ago, with two transfers filling in the only gaps.\u00a0 This will all be about QB play.\u00a0 James Madison retains only one of their top nine tacklers.\u00a0 They achieved 45 defensive sacks last year.\u00a0 Every player who recorded a sack is gone.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two of the four projected transfer starters are from Chesney\u2019s old school, Holy Cross.\u00a0 James Madison will take a moderate or more step back on this side of the ball.\u00a0 The incoming PK looks good.\u00a0 Putting together kick and punt return units may be challenging with so much turnover.\u00a0

In quieter times, this would be amazing.\u00a0 If all the staff and players had stayed, 11-1 would be possible.\u00a0 But times are different, and I\u2019m concerned about this defense.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have them at 6-3, with \u201ctossups\u201d hosting Coastal, at ODU, and home to Marshall.\u00a0 Let\u2019s call this 8-4, which is UNDER my 8.5 season win total recommendation<\/em><\/strong>, but closer than I expected.\u00a0 Watch QB Morris carefully.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
